Tailgating

Featured Replies

Does anyone else get tailgated on a regular basis in their Skoda? I have an Octavia 4x4 Turbo estate and it happens all the time, yet I also have an MG ZT and it never happens.

Is it a badge prejudice thing, or do people see the (usually empty) dog cages and assume 'slow driver'?

Strange...

No, don't get it in the Yeti or Fabia VRS.

But then if I'm not potering along in lane 1 I'm not hanging about.

Yup had it the other night, twisty backroads i know like the back off my hand i was stuck behind a car infront but suddenly i had a focus right up my arse so i done my usal and put my fogs on and he didnt budge so i gave the hazards a try which didnt work either

So i slowed right down to about 30mph at which point the car in front disapeered but the car behind was now so close i couldnt even see its lights! So i dabbed the brakes a few times to no avail, but i knew there was a big straight comeing up where he would try an pass so i slowed right down and just as he pulled out to pass it was foot down and good bye :D have to say though once my big tattooed arm went out. the window to flick him off he dropped right back..... Guess im not your typical skoda driver :D

I hate tailgaiter with a passion!!!

Randomly. Nothing to do with the Octy.

Mix of men and women. Blokes will generally get the hint if I start slowing right down, or dabbing the brakes. The women seem oblivious to it all. They drop back then creep right up again. SWMBO is a habitual tailgater no matter what I say, I have to shut my eyes when she's driving sometimes to stop me grinding my teeth to dust.

If I'm on my own in the car for some reason when I'm tailgated animals will jump out in front of my car, at night there is always this black labrador that appears..... :bandit:

Yep happens all the time, don't think it's the car though - although could be as the Superb is de-badged!

I really don't care that much these days, if they are in soooooooo much of a hurry I just pull over and let them past.

Yup! Get it all the time. Mainly it's dumb bimbo women that are just completely oblivious!

I find a change up a gear and foot to the floor usually gives them a hint and gob full of smoke!

The best ones are the one speeders on NSL roads... they race up behind you in the 30 zone and sit on your bumper... then as soon as I'm at the NSL signs... See ya!

Phil

I find the opposite, they stay well back, possibly due to the fact the Police use the Octy vRS as unmarked cars, and Joe Public not too sure!

Only really works if you're in a silver or white vrs with xenons.

The only time i ever get tailgated, is when i'm on cruise control, and having the inevitable, hoof up on someone doing 60, then they speed up to 70 just as i get next to them, and i refuse to turn off the cruise control.

And to be honest, in that scenario, i'd probably be tailgating myself anyway!

I dont condone any of those events but i wasnt there so cant really comment as to what i would have done, but that said youre either very brave or very stupid, doesn't matter how big you are I would be careful pi$$ing people off when driving as anyone can be a bit nuts or have a weapon, after a few recent ish incidents around here where people have pulled weapons in road rage I would urge everyone to be cautious! Not trying to have a go at you by any means just wanted to warn you regards idiots out there.

Think im a bit of both tbh iv done thai boxing for a good few years now so id fancy my chances if the person reacted in such a way..... but like you said the person could be a nutter and have a weapon and all it takes is one looney like that.

Suppose it just goes to show how much i reallyyyy hate tailgaiters

The Police have plenty of unmarked Race Blue vRS's without xenon's round here, enough for most regular road users to be wary!

Interesting...I don't drive any differently in either car. I've found the most effective way of dealing with it is to ease off very slightly and increase my distance from the car in front, it works pretty well as in most cases they gradually back away to a safer distance.

Local boy racers seem to have a problem with my car... until it disappears. Unfortunately for them, they're not very quick!

Only other road users that seem to have a problem are Audi drivers... had it a lot recently, if I overtake them (legally too), suddenly they're glued to my rear end.

All I can say is that if you're that fascinated with a bloke's arse, then keep it in the bedroom sunshine...

I don't hang around in NSL areas but when it comes to 30/40mph signs i get tailgated constantly..

I don't understand why people think going 45 in a 30 is ok and 60 in a 40 is ok. I would've thought the 11% (ish) rule was acceptable nowadays, but obviously not. If they irritate me enough then I slow bang onto what its supposed to be or keep a goooooooood distance from the car in front (until I can overtake).

What I also don't understand is, on single lane A roads people tailgate slow drivers?? If your wanting to cut your journey time dont try and count how many legs that fly has got on their rear bumper? Overtake requires you seeing oncoming traffic and this cant happen if your glued to the car in front???!?!

I often overtake 2-3 cars at a time because of this.. I would much prefer one at a time.

Both of my cars have non standard badges & I rarely get tailgated. when I do it's mainly by clueless females during the day it must be said. I spend more time watching in the mirror to see if they're reacting to what's happening on the road than looking forward sometimes!

I feel your pain, SWIMBO has been involved in 2 rear enders and it is still the fault of the car in front slowing down to quickly :S

Mine just past her test in October last year and she's been very close to giving someone a shunt! I went ballistic with her and she seems to have learned, at least she doesn't do it when I'm in the car.
