New Phone, impressed :)

Featured Replies

Just got a new phone LG Optimus E900 Windows 7 , seems very good. :)

Ooooooo, lets see some photos then :p

Another wp7 member - welcome!

Hate to say it, but i'd consider returning it, whilst your in your easy exchange period.

LG have just announced they are stopping making WP7 devices, as they aren't getting very good sales. As such, you'll be lucky to see any new OEM apps, and i'm sure updates will be less plentiful than companies with a continuing commitment to WP7.

I'm sure that's not really the news the OP wanted to hear, whether it's correct or not. Perhaps he's not interested in apps and just wants the functionality or just the fact that it's not the run of mill normal phone??

Even if LG stop supporting the WP platform, then OS updates should come from MS anyway, so the OP would just miss out any any LG specific applications, for instance the "HTC Hub" on the HTC range of WP devices, I guess LG have some similar apps...

Unless they've drastically changed their delivery model, then I'm afraid that's wrong. What generally happens is:

MS/Google release the "vanilla" version of their OS

This goes out to handset manufacturers, who customise it for each of their devices (i.e. hardware drivers, removing support for OS features that aren't present on particular hardware, etc)

If you have an unbranded phone, then it's at this point that you get your updates (i.e. once it's been through your hardware vendor and tested)

For branded handsets, then the update goes on another stage to the network operator for them to customise with bundled apps, tested, and released to their own handsets.

Often, handsets can be successfully "debranded" meaning that you can get your updates as soon as they're released by the handset manufacturers, but I'm not aware of any way a handset will receive updates directly from MS/Google.

Well as it happens i like it very much, am not very bothered about it being "the best" and enjoy the "exclusivity" of owning a lesser owned phone, also it only cost £130 so not too expensive for a very good windows smart phone :)
