New North East England Octavia VRS owner (Pics)

Hi all,

New member checking in! .... My name is Longyear and I'm from Newcastle upon Tyne, although I now live "down south", 20 miles further down the A1 near Durham. :hi:

Yesterday I purchased a beautiful Octavia VRS 1.8T 20v 180hp, 02 model, FSH, 86k. It's in fantastic condition and the old cliche about it driving "like a new car" definitely applies here.

Mechanics are 9/10, Interior 9/10, bodywork 9/10, the only slight let down at the moment would be paintwork, all of which is original, but I have 2 or 3 areas where the laquer is fading, so 6/10. They are only small areas but need doing to make the car an all round 9/10 job!

I have owned literally half a dozen VAG cars; mostly Golf Mk IVs and Boras, all of the PD TDI 130 variant. Some standard, one I had a REVO remap on, and one I had a cheap generic remap on, (which surprisingly gave a better all round result, at 1/3 the price of the remap, but that's another story!).

This my first Skoda, and my first petrol VAG model, so I currently know absolutely zip about these cars, but I love my ars and I am excited to start learning the good, the bad and the ugly aspects of these cars, here on this great forum!

I had narrowed my car purchasing choice down to getting either an E46 BMW probably a 323i or 328i (saloon), or the Octavia 1.8T 150hp, or VRS 180hp. There weren't many Octavias in my price range, and I was about to "get all sensible" and buy a (02) BMW 318i saloon, when out of nowhere, my gorgous Octavia appeared.

It came with the most genuine, comprehensive and solid "FSH" I have seen with a car. I read it all this evening, and it literally tool 2 hours! ..... also 11 months MOT, 5 months Tax and was serviced in Feb so needing for nothing. The previous (local) owner was an enthusiast and has sorted all of the weakspots and common issues with these cars (or that's what I'm led to believe and I have no reason to doubt). In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if this car has been on this forum before.

Anyway, I have waffled on enough, so I'll started trawling the forum now, reading, and absorbing as much as I can.

First impressions of the car are that it is stunning to drive, far better than the Golfs and Boras (but they were diesels so heavy at the front!), and the 1.8T 20v 180hp engine seems to deserve the acclaim it gets.

Look forward to getting stuck into what appears to be a great forum, with some good guys n gals!

Hi and welcome aboard.

Thanks.

First job - removing the "Octavia RS" frosted stickers from the back windows! .... were these really put on new, as standard?!

  • 1 month later...

Hi Longyear...

I bought a black version of your car 3 weeks ago and I seem to have entered an exciting and very secretive community of car ownership. It seems to me that anyone who owns a Mk1 vRS Octavia really worships and looks after there car - I also picked up an enormous service history and the condition of the car is very good for an 04 plate with 67K.

Check out the branded Skoda cigarette lighter and valve caps on Amazon...the obsession begins...

Cheers

Ross

Oh yeah -

if you've got any tips on sticker removal please let me know because I've got a ruddy great big car dealership advert stuck to my rear windscreen : (

Thanks
