235 45 17 tires on orginal rims !

Featured Replies

have anyone tried to move up from orginal 225 to 235 ? I would hope to gain a little ekstra comfort and more tire wall protection !

I would have thought that unless the profile (40 to 45 to 50 etc to give more vertical movement) changes the only advantage would be that it would hold the road more tightly around corners.

The gain will influence the profile as well. 10 mm x 0,45.

The gain will influence the profile as well. 10 mm x 0,45.

Which means the rolling radius changes too, so you need to check the effect on the speedo / odo.

Why not just take delivery of your Superb, and use original tyres until they are worn, then change?

You could always visit the dealer, and ask him to change your order to 16" Wheels from factory?

As has been said, rolling radius will change, speedo will be out, and tyres may not clear the arch / suspension. - I'm sure than Mr. Skoda done alot of research, into what size tyre was the best all rounder before he sold it!

Plus, as I'm sure many members on here, will tell you that the ride of the Superb is good and is a decent trade-off between handling, ride quality and road-noise.

I'm running the Standard Uk-spec 4x4 Elegance 18" rims, with, until next week, the original Continental Tyres and find that there's no issue with ride quality. I run 18" Luxon rims during the winter months, with Vredestine WintracXtreme's, and have also never had any issues with traction etc. in snowy conditions.

thank all for opinions ! The reason for considering changing the set up. Is because i have ordered bad road kit . And on cars with this orginal like octy scout and vw passat alltrack they change to a little bit higher profile like 225 50 17 ? I know about problem with speedometer !

225/50 is one big step further compared to 235 with the same profile 0.45.

3,5 % to 1.3 % difference!

found that passat alltrack wears 235 45 17 and ill go for this size ! The octy scouts are 225 50 17 and thats too much i think ! I will report later when i get the car !

On my car they are 225x40x18 and I am quite impressed with the ride comfort especially when I compare it to my Superb 1 L&K.

I went for 215/55-16 winter and 235/45-17 summer and got about 17 cm of ground clearence together with the bad road kit + good comfort

If you are looking for comfort, you don`t go up, but you come down. 205/55 R 16 is much more comfortable than those monstersizes.... :giggle:

Do you have clearance for chains with your 215/55R16's? What size (width) rims did you mount them on? How was the tyre choice in 235/45?

hello kiwi ! It sits on 6,5 inch rims and 17 is 7 inch ! Dont know about chains ? Never use it ! Here on west coast norway mostly wind and rain during winter

Thanks, I have found both 6.5 and 7" wide audi rims in 16". What model of tyre did you go with?

michelin x ice or some

thing for winter and summer is hancook test winners dont remember model ? Have you got bad road kit on yours ?

I was unable to get a Superb with a manual box or a bad road kit. So I bought an Octavia Scout (used) instead.

ok ! Thats a great car ! I guess you have about the same ride height then ?

I think the Octavia Scout is a little higher, due mainly to the bigger tyres (225/50R17) which are still a bit bigger than your 235/45R17's.

yes you have 0.9 cm more ground clearance
