DRL on together with the dipped beams

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I changed the standard daytime running bulbs on my 2012 superb for sum LED's from Ebay (as discussed in plenty of other topics here) and I'm really pleased with the results.

Would anyone of you happen to know if it's possible to keep the daytime running lights together with the dipped beams? It seems that the default is that as soon as the headlights turn on as it gets dark the daytime running lights turn off automatically. As I like the look of the LED's, I would really prefer for them to stay on regardless.

Please share if you know anything that may help!

I would suggest that the answer is in the question - Daylight Running Lights. They are there for others to see you, not to illuminate the way ahead for you.

As I understand the legislation, DRLs - when fitted - must be on when the ignition is on, can be on when the position-marker lamps (sidelights) are on, but cannot be on when the headlights are on.

Legally they can be on, but i think they MUST dim (think Octavia vRS and many Audi's)

however all that is irrelevant as it is not possible on a Superb (I have tried relentless tests on the DRL's with VCDS)

You can always switch on the Fog Lamps which will give similar look to the DRL's

Please don't lower yourself to these standards.

No doubting your knowledge Ray and not for one minute do I know the legislation but I think Ford Mondeo DRLs don't dim when the headlights are on. Pretty sure I've seen a few Mondeos with their LED DRLs fully lit together with headlights on?? Logic would say they should either go off (ala Superb) or dim when the headlights are on.

Not me mate. Since he seemed so desperate for the DRL's, hence the statement. I would like to clarify, however, that I do not subscribe to switching on the Fogs with the headlights unless there are actual foggy conditions.

They could always have been retro fitted, then anything's possible!

You can always switch on the Fog Lamps .....

Nope - it's not legal to use them at any time other than in conditions of seriously reduced visibility. Can't use them when parked, either.

Yet, the Superb turns them on when in reverse...!

Al.

And switches individual side ones on (if the headlights are on) when turning!!

They are then classified as cornering lights though, plus this can be disabled if required.

I spoke to the dealers and they said that I should bring the car in and they will change the settings through the computer no problem. I assume that this means that it is legal!

They are onto a loser, they can try but it cannot be done since to do so will breach the EU lighting directive, and the reason.

DRLs are designed to be seen in bright daylight, at night when you usually use dipped beam they are positively blinding hence the name DAYTIME running lights.

Many have been trying to get DRLs on at the sametime on the Octavia and Superb using more complex software than the dealer has and so far all have failed.

The only settings available are, on without headlights, dim with indicators or off alltogether.

this is the thread started 2 years ago in the Octavia forum, here we are today and we are still trying.

You'll end up paying a full day's labour for no result?

Unless you drive a Mini then daytime running lights means you just have your normal lghts on anyway. Much to the Mini drivers despair.
