Chinese head unit experience (Positive) inc. video links

Featured Replies

Dtm,

go to

www.wincepatch.com.

follow their instructions..It's quite straight forward.

Btw it won't help with the ipod as that's connected to the chinese side of the unit not the wince side.

Cheers. nick

Thanks for the advice. I didn't realise you had posted this and ended up finding the website as well. I presume you purchased the patch for $19.99? When I mentioned the iPod I was thinking I could use the Nitrogen media player but I suppose I will have to copy the music files to a USB for instance and play through that?

Hi DTM,

yes exactly right, you can play off the USB or if your SatNav card has space on it put music on that

Yes I did purchase at $19.99, I did think about the free MioPocket which probably would have worked but at WinCEpatch, support was offered and it was a tried and tested product on out head units not just wince based satnav units

i would advise you NOT to use miopocket unless you know exactly what you are doing, its screwed the wince side of my unit up good and proper ! im still trying to find a copy of wince 6 which will hopefully fix my unit, if i cant find a copy of wince 6, {which is easier said than done, 2 weeks and im still looking..} then my unit is going to have a new gps board which is going to cost me....

I have the dvb television with freeview tv and the picture and reception is superb.

Hey Studmuffin,

What TV tuner and antenna did you use to get your Freeview TV working. I still can't get mine working :( I just get "No signal" message.

@westfielder - I am going to park the idea of getting the WinCE patch for the time being. Too many other things I want to do to my car first. Thanks for teh heads up.

My unit appears to be have been activated to watch DVD etc whilst the car is driving. They must have bypassed the safety side of things. I'm am searching ways of getting my TV to work. Will keep you updated on my progress.

Just reading through this with interest, and i think i may know why your tv isnt working, if the tuner you got was for irish tv we use mpeg4 i think which is different to uk freeview

maybe ask the seller to confirm its ok for uk tv

my unit already had the tuner fitted, so i just plugged the antenna in, it found all the channels and away we went !

this may sound like a stupid question...but has your unit got the tv tuner ? because you can buy the units without the tuner and they are about £40 cheaper than the units with the tuners...

No my unit did not come with the TV Tuner. However I purchased a MPEG4-DVB tuner from the same seller so I know it was working and compatible. It should work but I can't seem to find out why not. Did your antenna come with it. I'm honestly thinking that my issue is with the antennas that came with it. If you did buy a separate antenna can you tell me the name or give me a link. Thanks.

@Dallan - I have this TV Tuner.

Looks like that will only pickup HD Channels in UK the standard channels use Mpeg2 (it might work for the HD channels? BBC HD, ITV1 HD etc.)

Irish DTT uses MPEG-4 video compression over a DVB-T broadcasting infrastructure. Both standard definition and high definition channels on Irish DTT use these standards.

UK Freeview uses MPEG-2 over DVB-T for its standard definition channels and MPEG-4 over DVB-T2 for its high definition channels.

The same applies to our normal TV's my Panasonic Plasma is UK spec (to get Freesat HD built in) but as a consequence its not MPEG 4 compatible so i cant use it for Irish version of freeview

Hope that makes sense, i would ask the seller to swap for an MPEG 2 version if there is one, that way you retain control from the touch screen without the need for an additional remote control.

That's interesting. Maybe I can't pick up HD on this becuase the signal is weak in my area? What about Freeview, is that picked up on MPEG 2 or MPEG 4?

Freeview SD is MPEG 2 and HD is MPEG 4 as far as i can tell

So I should be able to receive Freeview HD with my equipment. The Tuner I have IS DVB-T which is the correct platform.

I presume a freeview signal is a freeview signal so even if I had an MPEG-2 I would still not receive a signal for it.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but looking to put BT in my car, and then came across this....again from ICEBOX AUTO.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251082735801?_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_9672wt_1026

It looks like a replica of the RNS510. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of it on here?!? I've seen some US users comment on it with VW cars and it looks positive. Also if you do have it, is anyone in the Manchester area so I can have a peek?!

My unit, more or less identical to that one, is working 2 years on. I bought it from icebox auto and found them to be very helpful, especially when the Bluetooth in mine packed up and they sorted it all for me!

I am a big fan of the units and regularly use the Bluetooth for music, phone (though at speed its not usable), satnav and USB/SD cards.

TV isn't great, and radio reception can be flaky. Girlfriends iPod works with it as well!

Hmmm Bluetooth and the Radio is what I use the most.

When you say at speed...do you mean it becomes unbearable for the listener?

I think I may have to give this a miss, and stick to a basic Parrot kit on the current headunit.

Its like having your phone on speaker phone and sat on your dash, mic does pic up enough background noise to make it hard for other person.

I have a headset for long journies and then the headunit for short trips around town. Head unit is useless at motorway speeds for the hands free phone!

Bluetooth streaming works very well. :)
