Its time to do something about this ...

Featured Replies

I was wondering if anyone had an idea of the work, cost and time this would take to rectify this horrible dent .

Its been there for almost two years and I am sick of seeing it ! I am based slightly north of Inverness so appreciate I probably wont be spoilt for choice!! The pic of the bumper probably do myself but any hints tips would be good. Ive not done anything like that before.

Thanks in advance!!

Wow! if i didnt know better i would have thought i was looking at my own car!

I bought mine insurance cat D because of a similar dent/scratch to that. Anyway, the work.....

The door i replaced £50 (was pointless really as i got it sprayed anyway, but at the least the dint was gone)

The rear quater was abit more tricky for me as my dent was slightly higher so the line needed to be put in from the petrol cap. I got mine pulled out as best as they could get and then filled and sprayed. My sprayer told me he would need to spray onto the door to blend the colour and around the sills etc

i was quoted between £250 & £350 to get it fixed, but it came up in a conversation to somebody who was more than happy to do it on the cheap. A few places wouldnt actually touch the rear quater because of the colour silver being such a hard colour to match.

Hope this helps.

thanks for replying.

How good a job was your repair? At all still noticeable or totally seamless? As you mentioned about price in a conversation I take it that means I will be looking at 600 or so ? How much did you get pulled out before they used filler if you know ? Just the rear quarter looks almost folded over on itself .

Anyone know a good , reasonably priced place in or around Inverness for bodywork?

Its actually ruining the entire car for me , all I see when I see the car! - (And the rattles are getting annoying aswell  )

Thanks

Was quoted £600 for a smaller dent in rear door, spoiler, front bumper, and boot all repaired, sprayed and blended, so anything under that would be a good deal. I live in London so labour rates are higher and the place does classic cars & addisson lee so I know their work is top quality!

The rattles are driving me mad too it seems every time I clean it it seems another one appears.

My damage was worse than yours really, the quater was pushed and scrapped in quite abit. I was there when all the work was done to watched it start to finish, the dent was pulled out quite alot but there was only so much he would do, he put the main lines back in around the door and fuel cap as the less filler used the better. The damage on the quater isnt noticeable at all and im over the moon with it! but sadly there is some signs of respray on the doors as it was such a big area the compressor was up and down so in certain lights you can see what looks like a shadow, But i did only pay £70 for a quick fix... and will probly just buy 2 other silver doors and put them on....

have a look at my thread, theres some pictures of the work being done, if you want full pictures of the damage before pm me and i'll send you some.

Pieman :sun: What you said below is good to hear !

Hutchy - Your car seems more or less as new so It was a decent repair. Im just now trying to find best place to get it done. Sanded out the rust on mine today and sprayed more primer on it . Trying to stop the rot setting in before it gets sorted.

Do you think that the bumper one is easy enough to sort or is it better getting this done as well?

The wheel refurb will have to wait :(

I'd change the door if I were you.. It's already started rusting and each time you sand it it'll just rust again because the galvanisation has been removed.. a good 2nd hand door would still be rust proof. If you get your existing door filled and painted it could rust through again.

Amazing what they can beat-out today, as long as they can get behind the panel and the two-pack finish seems to be flexible enough to stand-up to a fair bit of movement without cracking.

I had an 12 foot oak tree branch fall on the boot of my Fabia saloon in 2006. Left a dent on the upper surface of the left rear wing and boot lid which at its deepest was about 3 inches.

Main dealer wanted to replace the whole rear wing with new @£900 + materials and tax. Insurance company loss adjuster said it could be beaten out. And that's what happened for £600 all-in. Still OK today, though part of the boot interior trim doesn't aligh 100% with the steel - only an expert would notice.

Nick.

You cant get into the rear quater as its all "double skinned" it has to have the small nails welded up and pulled out that way.

I am just wanting it sorted. I know you get what you pay for but bodywork seems to be very pricey, even smallish stuff. I am not that fussed about getting a door yet because i'd rather sort the main dent out all nice and tidy first of all then i can get a good second hand one fitted afterwards.

Any idea of the price of one ? And is it identical , including bump strip trim?

About the door possibly rusting through again , is this not the case with the dent aswell... Dont understand why if anything is cleaned, de-rusted ,primed properly and finsihed then there should be no chance of rust appearing again. Its a different story underneath , i.e stone chips abrasion etc .

Why can't it just all be panels :wall:

I've bought 3 doors now for two different fabias! All 3 cost £50 each so £150 total

That was including everything attached, electric windows, central locking, door card etc!

If the jobs done correctly, rust wont come back through.

2nd hand car parts and availability are probably one of the few reasons i wish i lived further south...

Anywhere i should look specifically for the door?

Thanks

I've seen a few on ebay but got all mine at local scrap yards, one of them has a full silver vrs pretty much untouched apart from the door lock i took, sill protectors, cd player and asr button out of :)

Since all the panels are mint i got a price for the front vrs bumper, bonnet, wings and two doors, he said "eeeerrr giz about 200 quid for em.."
