Got my Octavia VRS Mk1 booked in for Remap on Friday :o)

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

I have just booked my VRS Mk1 in for a remap on Friday - I just cannot wait, as this will be the first petrol (turbo or otherwise) car I've had remapped (had 3 x TDI130PD cars remapped in the past).

On paper the map takes the VRS from 180hp to 212hp, with 65nm more Torque.

It's getting done by a friend of a friend, who runs a non-franchised, genuine tuning business; http://www.airsuspen...lowering.co.uk/

I will report back on Friday and let you know how the map seems to perform. B)

Cheers.

212 seems a bit optimistic, 205 more realistic but i can tell you you will be mightily impressed!!

Cheers Jase. Yes I suspect you're right re: power increase (in real terms). ........ but looking forward to it nonetheless.

Although it's not the fastest car I've owned, I'm already pretty pleased with the performance of the car. But that little bit more 'squirt' when I want it will be nice. :)

The remap is costing £210 also (his normal price is £250), so pretty low cost way of getting a performance hike. Better value than the REVO I bought on my Golf IV PD130 in 2006 for £568! (list price at the time).

Cheers.

Trust me it will feel like a different car! Mines cost £250 at rtech for a custom stage1

So, I've had my Octy VRS Mk1 remapped today :)

... more on that in a sec. What a day, 20 mins before WP Auto were due to arrive to do the map (which is an Elite Remaps map), I took the car out and it turned into a complete bag of bolts! ... misfiring on a cylinder, engine warning light flashing etc....... anyway, 4 brand new coil packs and a £100 later, I was ready for my remap!

Will from WP Auto done all the diagnostics and there were no errors coming up, so he went ahead and done the remap. Total time took him about 1 hour 30 mins, including test drives.

OH MY GOD ......... I can now see exactly what people say when they say that this car is like "night and day" with and without the remap. It feels astonishingly faster in every gear, right across the rev range. The main hugely noticeable difference is the amount of 'kick' from the Turbo now ....... it's like the stock map had the Turbo asleep, or believeing it was some low pressure Volvo unit from the 90s ......... and now the beast has been woken! ....... it just boosts beautifully. To be honest, when I bought the car the negotiating point was because the front tyres were shot and need replacing. That, and lot's of rain today have meant that I haven't really been able to see what the car can do, but let's just say I've had it wheel slipping like mad in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. :) ...... The torque increase in phenomenal too; I can keep the car in 3rd in some of the tight corners on the twisties near where I live, where I was previously having to change down. In that respect it feels a bit like a PD TDI engine; but with a full rev range and some nice sound!

The 'book' figures for my remap are that in increases power by 32bhp (to 212) and Torque by 60nm ....... I can honestly say that it feels like DOUBLE these figures in real terms. I just cannot overstate how transformed the car is ....... the boost and kick remind me of one of my favourite past cars; a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo (but that was a 'proper' 20v, with 5 cyls )... The VRS is maybe a shade slower but by God I wasn't even expecting performance to be comparable with that car.

If you have a VRS, get it remapped, simple as!

If you're in the North East (County Durham) area, I'd highly recommend WP Auto. Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful service and a brilliant result at an excellent price.

Cheers.

Mines was the same on the day of my map! Crap tires and it just lit the asr light up constantly so i was unsure of it!

Then i got on the mway! 70+ in 5th trying to overtake as stock you had to drop the box! With a remap it pulls like a train!

Mines went up 70bhp difference at 4k rpm! Stock it put out 125bhp a 4k! Remapped its 195bhp at 4k so it feels like a 70bhp remap not just 180 to 210

Just wait until a dry day! I got my 0-60 to go from 7.6 to 6.3 (in no way scientific but still a vast improvement)

Yes, I'm with you; I noticed the dramatic hike at around the 4k mark, and by God it does make 5th gear overtaking and accelerating so much better.

The car's running like a dream; except for this pesky Engine Warning Light that has come on this afternoon. I had all 4 coil packs changed, prior to the remap, so wondering if it's still from that ........ will disconnecting the battery reset the light, so I can assess how quickly it comes back on (if at all) ?

Cheers.

Nope! If fault is fixed (coilpacks) and the ecu doesnt see a fault anymore after 10 engine starts and the car accelerating past 10mph the light will turn off! The fault code will be stored forever though unless you reset fault codes (wouldnt worry about that though) i one had around 20 fault codes stored lol

I can't agree more with all of you, my remapped black Octy ( 2.0 litre FSi T) feels like a Jekyll & Hyde car, still great for pootling around

in traffic, but with a lot more punch when you need it.

It's an AMD stage 1 map, with power up from 206 hp to 257 hp at around 5,800 rpm, & max torque increased from 209 ft/lbs to 284 ft/lbs, but about 380 rpm lower (3,175 rpm).

All in all a very flexible engine with reasonable economy & surprising (especially to others.....) performance.

The car itself is great fun, but I'm never going to get used to the ride / handling compromise, it's a little too harsh for my personal taste.

To complete the remap story, both our other cars have just been to AMD, my V6 Mondeo benefiting from a very modest torque & power increae, but with sharper throttle response. A very different car when compared with the Skoda, quite nippy, very spacious & comfortable, a true gentlemans motor carriage & one which encourages a more relaxed driving style. (Until the red mist descends........)

Madam owns & loves a VW EOS, fitted with the same 2.0 T FSi lump, & she decided to go for a stage one remap as well......

The results are different to the Skoda, a tad more power & torque before the remap, but with lower gains, albeit at higher engine RPMs.

Perhaps the installations are different, it has a much quieter exhaust system & maybe a different air intake?

Still a lot more fun on the road though, & she's a happy grannie..........

A question perhaps, AMD told us to expect a little more performance as the new software "learns" something. Are they referring to our driving styles or are we missing something?

Cheers, David C.

I found after the remap it's a bit woolly and raggedy. Needs tightening up to make it more planted, but I don't think the standard set up is crashy - it's surprisingly supple!

Is this WP Auto Solutions in Haswell mate? Been thinking about getting mine remapped

Cool, will be interesting to hear how your map goes. I have mine booked in this Friday also but mine is at Sharks for a stage 2. It will be a FUN day for both off us.

Hi mate,

Sorry about the late reply

- yes that's right (I live in the new estate in Haswell, just round the corner from WP Auto :)).... He (Will Price) is a friend of a friend. Would definately recommend. He does a good, thorough job.
