Number Plates?

Featured Replies

Hi,

My plates are a bit grubby and I want to freshen them up I tried some pressed plates on the car and tbh I don't think they suit the car..

Any recommendations or examples of what you have?

Can you get plates from Skoda with the Skoda logo on the bottom of them?

Any help is appreciated..

Have you got a private plate, or is it just a bog standard registration number?

I have a car with a personalised plate, and one without. The standard number plate looks better on a pressed metal plate, but like you, i didn't like the personalised plate on a pressed plate, and i went with a completely bog standard plate (plain colour, no border, background, emblem, etc), which l think suits it much more.

I usually get them from my local Skoda Dealer as they look more original then.

I wanted skoda ones, but here they have a ****ty extra bit under them, looks gash so just got totally plain ones

here are mine with the private plates, aint got one of the octy but you get the idea....

Cheers all,

Do skoda dealers generally do the official plates with the skoda logo at the bottom? Any idea on price?

I bought 2 new plates from a VW dealer for about £30 if that helps. I had to take the V5 in for them to do it.

It should require taking the V5 and proof of ID for the named person on the V5 at the address matching that on the V5.

can you still get unbranded plates made, without any logos on?

You can always get 'Show Plates' without the 'Plate Makers Identification' on them,

but then that is not Registration Plates for use on UK roads.

You just need to find someone prepared to make them up & take the chance of prosecution, as you need to take that same chance.

looks like no logo plates there, i am obviously not condoning it but i have run with show plates on all my cars, including the octavia since passing my test 6 years ago. By show plates i mean they have no makers stamp and custom badges like the ones shown above in my previous post. I have not once to this day been stopped or questioned about them. Once again i am not advising you to do this just my experience and i no i can be collard by the police for it.

LOL.

Drive about Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire or Angus for any length of time and get stopped or checked on something else

& they will give you points and fines almost certainly.

Plenty of Scottish Islands & areas with vehicles with no Road Tax and people never get pulled,

well they were not untill HRMC decided to start doing some Re-Bated fuel visits along with VOSA

am i correct in thinking if the plates (or car) are pre sept 2001 then as long as the lettering etc is legal then you dont have to show a makers name?

fordfan, did you go on the link you posted and look at how to find Registered Plate Makers,

That is Registered Plate Makers that require to put their identification on the plates they make/supply.

You will find their Requirements & legal obligations elsewhere.

2003 that Suppliers had to Register

& not untill November 2008 did it become an offence to Supply plates outwith the regulations, ie with Suppliers ID on the plates

& the records kept on the ID being checked of who they were supplied to.

Suppliers of Plates for Vehicles Only Registered in the UK for the first time do not need to be Registered.

Makers of plates for their own vehicles/fleets, not for re-sale dont need to Register so will not have to have an ID on plates

Go for standard plates, no fancy background, no carbon/3D effect lettering, no chrome surrounds, no pressed metal, no border, no logo - they all are too bling and make it look as though you are trying too hard.

OK, a blue GB strip works but nothing else :giggle:

I do drive around aberdeen, quite a lot actually because i work offshore and my company office is in aberdeen and once again never a problem. I think there will be alot more uninsured/untaxed vehicles in scottish cities than in the islands.

Very true,

i am sure there are many more and its easy to catch them in the Cities and on the Mainland now.

Now they are catching them on the islands & far flung places ,

arriving without prior notice on quite a few now.

No fore warning from Ferry operators & Flight crew, just a descreet arrival.

You are obviously not a Bully Basher or mistaken as one when in driving in and around Aberdeen, so why would you be getting stopped?.

Saying that. On my old fiat I had completely plain plates on for a whole year and never got pulled for it. It's really stupid. Two little marks are gone and they can prosecute you! It still shows your registration!

The whole thing was supposed to stop you showing someone elses Registration.

Like you get plates made up with my Registration Number and put them on your car to do a drive off petrol fill up,

or speeding, driving through a congestion charge area.

Or maybe like me making up plates with your number & using them when it suits me!

Obviously it does not work.

Because people that want to do something illegal has ways to do it.

Cr4p system but it still is the system untill it gets changed again..

No copper is going around checking Number Plates to see if they have a post code on the bottom,

then plenty do when going over a car after a stop and being picky,

petty but they do it.

Around my way (near the A90) they are dead hot on Trailer Number plates being correct.

(thats there in with pikeys)

They are watching for drug runs up the road daily & are always using something thats giving an excuse to stop likely vehicles, wrongly spaced plates etc is a favourite reason to look closer and keep you speaking.

you are right, i aint a bully basher, perish the thought haha. The problem with the police coming to the island is they have to come on the ferry with unmarked cars, so as soon as they board the ferry the people on the ferry know the make, model, colour and reg, so in the 3 hours it takes to get up here the rest of the island know that i.e. a Black Ford Focus with reg AA10AAA is coming up on the ferry haha, same with any organisation !!!

They have that sorted out now, or they think they have.

One island had them arrive in a couple of Horse Transporters, & a Motorhome, while a plane brought in some more.

Obviously they have being doing it on the Northern Islands first but you can expect to see them soon in the Western Isles.

Just a Farm Watch thing on Quads etc, helping with advice on security,

we will have a little look around your outbuildings & see if we can give some advice.

They blitzed my area one week and had a special interest in Grain Driers etc that use LPG,

then a little bit of dipping for Cherry.

Came just a week or so after Neighbourhood/Farm watch courtesy calls had been getting done.

(information gathering type thing)
