windows ce....help please !

Featured Replies

Not sure if this is in the right part of the forum, but here goes anyway....

I have a Chinese double din unit which runs wince 6, today i tried installing miopocket on to it via sd card. it started to install everything ok, until the point where it said something like....'files installed attempting to re boot '.

It stayed like this for about 10 minutes, as nothing was happening i switched the unit it off, then back on. i think this was a mistake because when i switched it back on, it booted straight to the screen where the red cursor scrolls along, and that’s it.....that’s all it does, it seems to be stuck. i have tried resetting it, to try to get it back to the main navigation/setup screen but have been unsuccessful so far. Everything else works fine, radio,sd card etc...

Anybody got any ideas on how i can get the wince part of my unit working again without major surgery please!

I recently bought a Chinese Double Din and love it. I know it has WinCE 6.0 and am trying to learn how it works. I'm sorry I am not answering your question but where did you learn about how it works and how to configure it etc? Any websites / tutorials or pointers? Appreciate any help, thanks. DtM

I found out a lot of info on the vw forums, those guys are more enthusiastic and more knowledgeable on the Chinese units than we are. gpspassion has a lot of info on miopocket, YouTube also has a lot of good videos if you type miopocket into it.

what I would say is though, make sure you know what youare doing with miopocket if you want to try that one, the install instructions can be quite complicated as I have just found out !

I also have one of these units, and from what I know of them you cannot "install" anything on them as it will break the wince side of them. You can only "run" applications from the sd card. this is why they tend to come with igo as this can be run from the card without installing anything. I think the only way forward is to contact the supplier and they will send you the system on a card or a download and you boot to this which will put the original system back on

OK thanks for your replies. I'm not going to mess with WinCe itself, just install programs via the SD Card.

Did you ever improve your radio reception Studmuffin? Mine is weak sometimes. I also couldn't find AM on my radio, only FM and MW? I'm sure however the AM signal would be really weak. I don't know if it's possible to upgrade the car aerial? I tried one of those boosters that plugs inline to the back of the stereo but no improvement.

I know I could get a DAB separate unit but that seems bad when I have a nice head unit. Would prefer to get it through that.

You need to use an aerial booster with the cheap chinese units as they cannot power the OEM one in the base of the aerial.

WinCE 6 is a very outdated OS and was released in 2006, very few companies now support it or provide current software that works on it. Microsoft withdrew support years ago, and shutdown the CE 6.0 marketplace at the sametime.

I found I needed two different ones, one to "inject" power to the Skoda antenna and one to boost it mine now works as well (if not better) than the original radio.

This one does the power

Autoleads PC5-137 Car Audio Aerial Adapter Lead for Fakra to DIN

And one of these to boost the signal

PC5-91 12v AM FM Aerial Signal Booster Adapter Antenna

Both need to be connected to a power source, I used the "blue" antenna control cable

Hope this helps

That's interesting, thanks for the reply. Are you able to get good AM signals like Radio 5 Live? Does the signal ever drop out?

I ask because I am seriously considering buying an addon which is DAB unit.

The first one you listed I had already purchased from Halford's,

The other just looks like the same thing? Theya re both listed as "Aerial Adaptors" ?

so what is the new OS ? i will be ringing iceboxauto tomorrow and hopefully he will be able to start my unit up without me parting with a load of cash,,,,

the chinese unit i have came with this adapter and it makes no differance to the radio reception, whether its connected to 12v or not, i think the problem is that there are not 2 aerial inputs into the unit like the vw's have

anyway thanks for the replies guys !

Tested today on AM, yes I get stations, as I do not normally listen to AM the quality is not great but I think that is just because it is not as good as FM. I found that it would work with just the "137" but it was not great as I think all this does is power the existing antenna. The "91" seems to give the signal boost. I then have a splitter as my unit has TMC so needs two feeds.

Well ive been on various websites and found out quite a lot of information on these Chinese units. the best chance i have of restoring my unit to its original state is to put a new copy of wince 6, and here lies the problem....

ive got more chance of finding rocking horse poo than finding a copy of wince 6 ! I spoke to iceboxauto {where i bought the unit from} and he doesn’t have a copy either! he said he is going to contact his Chinese supplier to see what can be done, in the last resort its going to have a new gps board fitted...
