Storing car off to Afgan

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm off on a 4 month holiday and need to store my mk1 Fabia vrs. I have secured a garage and intend to change the and, brim the fuel tank and put the battery on a maintainer. Is there anything else I should do. I intend on buying 4 new tyres on my return so I'm not botherering with axle stands. Any advice on storage or what to do when I get back will be greatly appreciated.

Could you not leave the keys with someone you trust and get them to run the car for 30mins a week or so?

Ideally i Don't want to insure it or tax it. Basically I am tight. Plus my mate is only 24 so to insure him on it for 4 months, will probably cost the same as my annual premium.

I would ask a close friend / family member to just start the car one a week mabey just pull it forward a few meters then back off possible I wouldn't leave the handbrake on either :)

Make sure you leave the handbrake off and in gear. It could seize on.

Might be worth emptying the washer bottle or putting a strong screen wash concentration in to stop the water going horrible and smelly.

Also consider slackening the auxiliary drive belt.

Make sure all the doors and locks are well oiled etc so you won't have any issues getting back into the car if they dry up and seize.

Then obvisouly when you get back check all the fluid levels and that everything looks ok (check that nothing has nested in the engine bay and chewed stuff!)

when i bought m

when i bought my vrs, the blike i got it from had had it sitting unmoved for 9 months in a farm outhouse thingy, new battery and it struck up strait away, no issues whatsoever :)

I've left cars sitting for way longer than 4 months, never any issue, even when I've left them outside.

leave it in gear with the handbrake off, I'd take the battery out and stick a charger on it every couple of weeks.

When you come back stick the battery back in, check the tyre presures and drive off, Simples!
