Just when I thought things couldn't get worse!

Featured Replies

So, I'm been having CEL engine warning lights on my VRS, following the fitting of 4 new coil packs, and a subsequent remap. ..but the car was running beautifully.

This morning, I disconnected the battery, just to try a rest of the CEL light, and I also just pushed by hand, all of the electrical plug caps under the bonnet; MAF plug etc.

When I re-connected the battery, the car will now not start. It's turning over but will not fire. :(

Absolutely gutted, this is our only car now, and we're supposed to be going 300 miles to Centerparcs in it with the kids, at the end of this week.

I don't have a code reader yet, so I know it's a long shot but I'm desperate - can anyone give any clues as to what could cause such a sudden failure for the engine to start?

Cheers.

Sounds a bit like fuel pressure to me - when you leave it for a bit then return and open the door, does it make the usual bzzzzz sound? If not check the fuel pump fuse.

Well to me I would suggest unpluggiing all the connectors you pushed in, as you could of distubed connection and made it worse. I unplugged all mine and sprayed electrical silicon to aid connectivity.

Give that a go.

Also the VRS can be a bugger to start it you have stalled it or not started on first attempt. Well mine is. Just got a Walbro 255 high pressure fuel pump as do also suspect my pump.

Failing that ask a local Briskodian to help with a cell reader, There is a list on here in techi section or maintainance somewhere.

Lift the back seats and punch the gas tank with your fist ,the area closest to the fuel pump.

The fuel pump has a very small ball inside wich get stucked ...

Thanks to you all, guys; you should charge premium giving help on a Bank Holiday lol!

Ok, SORTED!

It was a fuse. Couldn't tell you which fuse, just that it was a blue 15amp fuse :) .. I checked them all and that was the only fuse that was blown; so changed it and car jumped into life on the first turn. Phew!

I reckon I must have blown it out when re-connecting the negative term back onto the battery, as there was a bigger than normal spark :oops!:

Thanks so much for jumping in and suggesting ideas folks; it's really appreciated.

You wont reset cel by disconnecting battery!

As said in other thread goes away itself after 10 engine starts of reaching more than 10mph with the fault fixed

Yeah I know mate, but disconnecting the battery does physically turn off the light, which i just wanted to do to see if it the fault was still there on the rescan by the ECU.. But I take your point that disconnecting the battery doesn't fix anything in itself. I've done it 3 times so far though, and it does turn off the light, usually with it then staying off for a couple of hours, before it then comes back on.

Cheers.

if it goes off then comes back on you still have an issue

you need a scan done as it could be anything :)

Cheers ......... Code Reader arriving Wednesday (hopefully) so just some impatience to see if some pushing and polishing and fettling would solve the problem. With their being no effect on the driving, smoothness or performance of the car, I am optimistically hoping it's just some sensor or sender that's gone a bit awry..... blissful optimism eh!

And don't panic if you get a 18010 code when you plug in your reader - thats just there to show you disconnected the battery.

Thanks for the heads-up on that mate! ...... that's why this is a brilliant site; things like that could have had me looking miles off in the wrong direction. Cheers. :)
