Sat nav with maxidot?

Featured Replies

Hello

I am looking at buying a pre facelift 2005 Elegance with Sat Nav. Does this come with Maxidot and does the Sat Nav have any other extras (other than Satellite Navigation of course!).

Thanks very much.

If the car came from the factory with sat nav then it will have maxidot.

As it's a 2005 car, if it has factory navigation then it will be the older MFD2 nav, it's not great really, it's a simple upgrade to change to the newer Columbus touch screen unit, much better system with a 30GB HDD to store music, ability to play video DVD's etc, well worth the money and you will be able to sell your old unit for around £180 I'd imagine.

I have had both units and the difference between them is night and day.....

Thanks very much. I suspect new system will be quite a bit beyond budget (sadly!) but at least maxidot looks classier than the standard display.

The Columbus nav can be picked up for around £500 easily, maybe cheaper if your lucky, it's definitely worth it imo, I agree maxidot is definitely nicer to have.

I have the MFD2 and I like it a lot - I also don't have £500 for a Columbus but the MFD2 integrates nicely with the Maxidot system. Much nicer that sticking a TomTom to your windscreen imho.

Sorry another question. Does the MFD2 have a front load 6 CD changer or does it still have the autochanger (seems very old hat with iPods etc but I don't think they have an aux on a 2005!) in the boot.

The MFD2 has a front cd slot, you can't play CD's when using the sat nav, as to use the sat nav you need to have the map disc inserted in the unit so it's one or the other, I'm not sure about CD changers whether they are fitted or not.....

Another plus for the columbus unit, the maps are stored in the HDD so the cd slot is used for music CD's or video DVD's!

I don't have any CD's in the car anymore though, have all my music on the HDD or use SD cards to play it.....
