Loss of power

Featured Replies

On my drive to Kent at the weekend my vRS suffered from a loss of power as I accelerated on the motorway. So much so I had to drop down a gear to pull up the upcoming hill.

As no warning lights came on I pulled of the mway at my first safe opportunity. Opened the bonnet and the turbo was making no noise at all, not even a whistle. So I turned her off and fired her up again. Everything was fine till 2k revs then there was a rattle and the turbo was noisy, so i pulled in turned the car off. I thought there was something wrong with the turbo so I called the AA out, guy checked all pipes, drove the car and spent 2 hours looking at it. No fault codes were showing or anything.

It done it again on my way home, after around 5 hours driving. Anyone got any idea as to what could be wrong?

Hi mate.

Try to get someone with vagcom reader to check for faults. I had similar problem with no light and turned out to be MAP sensor wiring had rubbed against bulkhead.

Look on forum for those in your area who can help. I'm in south Wales if you are close.

Sounds like something is putting into limp mode.

Probably a dodgy sensor, wiring, faulty MAF or sticking turbo vanes. They are the main causes.

Thanks guys, ive been trying to get in touch with the garage where I bought it but they're not returning my calls.

Ive got a friend with a vagcom reader so I will get intouch with her.

+1 for vagcom

If its not a sensor could be over boost as if it goes to high it will put the car into limp mode with no warning lights also check the pipes on the vacuume unit over the front left strut top as this is what was causing mine to over boost

I took it to the garage where I bought it, they couldn't fault it so they're going to book it into my local Skoda dealer to have a look.

Hopefully they will be able to sort it whilst I have the warranty!

The car lost power again today, after running for around an hour, I had the cruise control on and the car started loosing power on a steep hill. Pulled over and switched Thr car off and it was back to normal. Again, no warning lights or and indication as to why.

the mr muscle trick!!!!!!!

worked a treat for me, same format and engine, your symptoms are exact and very common, this solves it , costs £2.99

If its warranty work, the turbo needs to be stripped and cleaned
