Hi,

I just bought an Octavia 1.6. Its seems to be a little to slow for me, (my last car was a 106 gti) so where should I start on how to improve the engine power? I have a set of 17s (215 45) ordered to try and improve the grip, and i`ll be lowering it soon so hopefuly that should help the handling. Do you lads know any online shops that will send parts over here? Cheers

your gonna struggle to improve on the gti performance wise mate, especially as the octavia is a much bigger, smoother more refined car so feels slower. not sure if there is an aweful to do to the 1.6 though, i think some members have played with them but most go for 1.8T or tdi's

I thought the same but didn't really want to say

Realistically a k&n style filter and exhaust will free it up and gain a few bhp + torque and associated increased throttle pick up

Remember that raw power isn't a direct correlation to quick. Uprated brakes and pads (Black diamond combi and Ferodo DS2500 for example) will enable later braking.)

Going round corners is so important so uprated springs and dampers will probably make the biggest difference (as well as making a visual difference as you have mentioned).

Online shops, try ?

With my old and wise head on, I'd say don't spend too much on modding the car you have but wait a bit and buy a sportier model outright :)

sounds like the best plan in my experience, i bought a 1.6 focus before the octavia and started to play with it, did the suspension, intake, exhaust, wheels and tints. it looked good but it was still fairly slow compared with a lot of cars. so i bought my 4x4 :D 4 wheel drive and a turbo is much more fun

Unfortunately you might notice that wider tread slows you down somewhat more, especially if your powerplant is lacking in the torque stakes in the first place.

As Benjie writes, for lower powered cars, the way to go is to make it handle like it's on rails, OK you won't beat anyone away from the lights, but you can hassle 'em 'round the bends. Ask TaviaRS for an opinion on this.....

don't want to steal any thunder mate but strathap suggested that, i totally agree but sadly didn't come from my fingers

Clear demonstration then that half the time I don't actually read what other people type, sorry to Strathap, but we all agree anyhow :D

 yet more honesty i see, i like it :D

You can both take the extra "R" for free

(I suggest that you stick it on your pedals, steering wheel, grill or nob !)

i don't want the extra v thank you very much i am more than happy with my 4x4. mmmmmmm wet traction, great for annoying chavs in xr2i's etc

Cheers for the help lads. I would have bought a RS straight away, but insurance in Ireland is poxy!!! Im 21 now and the biggest engine I can get is a 1.6, Nothing above that until im 25!!! I was paying 5000 euro tpft on the 106 GTi!!! Its only 1399 for the octavia. You guys dont know how well you have it insurance wise!

Anyhow, ill try the sites mentioned above. Im stuck with a 1.6 so i may as well make the most of it :thumbdwn:
