9yr/90k service stuff

Featured Replies

hey, im due my service very shortly and i cant find my service book. whats involved in this service? also i read somewhere that oil pumps need changing at 90k???? is this true?

mk1 rs by the way :)

As far as I know the only thing that needs doing over and above a normal service is a brake fluid change. I bought mine with 86k on the clock so the 90k service was the next one due and if I remember rightly the dealer just did a normal service plus the brake fluid. Might be worth doing the coolant as well if it looks a bit dirty.

great, coolant is fine as i did a flush when i changed the thermostat in feb. think i might get them to check the strainer whilst they are at it if its an easy job. had a crank go on my last car so im abit nervous now lol

Yeah strainer is a good shout, it's convenient to drop the sump if they are doing an oil change anyway. Is it being serviced at a main dealer or independent? When refitting the sump they have to be careful not to overdo the sump sealant as that's what tends to cause the strainer blockage problems.

Fuel filter might also be worth changing, I think according to Skoda they shouldn't ever need changing but I did mine at about 120k anyway.

ahh cool. i work at a toyota dealer so il be getting my minions to do it :rofl:

great il pop a fuel filter on to. when does gear oil need changing? seems nice and tight through changes tho but im just curious lol

I did a lot of reading into this a few weeks back and the general consensus on the 1.8T engine was a big No

I would just change the gearbox oil if gearchanges stop feeling smooth. I never did it on mine in 3 years and 50k of ownership although the dealer had done it before I picked up the car as the gearbox was fecked on the test drive.

The gearbox oil and PAS fluid are (along with the fuel filter) items that are supposed to last the lifetime of the car according to Skoda.
