is 124k to many miles for a remap

Featured Replies

hi is 124k to many miles for a remap has full service history and has been looked after was just looking for some guys who are at similar mileage and have these done or guys who have had the remap done at about thesame mileage thanks

You'd be best off speaking to some remap specialist's....Shark/Jabba etc?

I wouldn't see why it would be a problem if everything is kept in order/regularly serviced etc.

As long as your cars running fine then no issue. However the extra strain might show on things like the clutch.

I've done a lt of research into this and the general feeling seems to be that it will take out the clutch and turbo, but they were probably on their last legs anyway, so budget for a remap, turbo and clutch then dig in for another 125,000 miles!

I guess we will just have to wait and see!

Hi,

Any news?

If the bluefin doesn't work you could try powergate device or revo sell a switchable map device called sps

One of my local Briskoda members had a postal remap put on his Mk1 Octy VRS a couple of years ago when it had 140k on the clock. Turbo and clutch are still fine but he only drives it a couple of times a month. He has cooked the brakes on it though!

My old VRS was sold to a guy in Bath in March 2011 with almost 140k on the clock and last I heard he was planning to remap it this summer. Has already had new clutch and SMF conversion though and turbo should be tip top (was all the time I had it)

I have noticed a few threads recently where people are finding out that at 130k-ish the actuators on the K03S turbo can be pretty worn out if it's had a hard life, and can't hold the kind of boost a remap calls for. But you could always fit a Forge actuator or get hold of a low mileage K03S turbo with a working actuator and swap them over if thats the case.

thanks mate would u have any idea where i may get one of these as i have no clue and is this a better option than just getting a second hand replacement turbo aslo if actuator is worn would it show up on vag com at all

Possibly if you logged actual and requested boost it would be requesting a certain level of boost but not getting it (say requesting a max of 19psi but only ever getting 16psi). That would be the only way you could tell as the actuator doesnt have any kind of sensor on it. That and manually moving the actuator rod, if the wastegate opens really easily when you pull the rod then the spring in your actuator is shot.

You can get adjustable actuators from Forge Motorsport (look on their website) or there are K03S turbos sometimes come up on ebay for a couple of hundred quid, find one off a car with low mileage and just swap it for your current turbo. Obviously only need to do that if the actuator on yours is knackered though

Heres a link to two members who have had actuator problems on 130k+ mile cars:
