Swimming Pool under scuttle tray

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just joined the forum to try and help my boss out! He owns a superb that seems to have taken on the familiar swimming pool routine in the rear offside foot well.

Having read a bit on here today about the pollen filter seal issues I thought that was the problem, but on removing the scuttle plate to expose the filter etc I found the whole area to have between half and one inch of water collected along the whole length from fuse box to pollen filter.

I would imagine that there should be some drain holes there somewhere but on first inspection I have not found any. Can someone please lend a hand and tell me where I can find them?

Many thanks

Addie

Remove battery very quickly. One hole is there. In the hole is rubber mounting. Remove it and threw it in the garbage. Other one is under the brake booster. Do the same as to the first one.

the second sticky thread at the top of the Superb forum contains details and links to a step by step guide on what to do - basically remove battery (get a hand to to that) remove both rubber bungs permanently and reseal pollen filter housing.

You can reach the drain hole under he brake booster by standing on he driver's side of the car and reaching down between the wing and the brake booster (the big black thing) - use your flexible arm :giggle: and poke the hole with your finger. Water should start gushing immediately.

But in this instance as you "only" have an inch of water, I would say this is not the reason for the footwell swimming pool, as the water did not get high enough for that - I had water all the way to the top of the scuttle area  ... more likely the seal around the pollen filter seal has perished, and water that's going past it (as it drains off the windscreen) goes past the seal and straight into the cabin. Remove the pollen housing, dry the seal or get a new one, apply generous amounts of silicone and reseal. Good luck.

Could it be that the scuttle does pass water but not in volume so that when there is lots of water it over flows?

Nope! Fully sealed. Your pollen seal is the issue here.
