I have had a spare gearbox for my 2004 tdi but it came from a pre facelift tdi and it seems to have no place for the reverse light switch and maybe a different speedo drive. Has anyone fitted one and adapted stuff? Where excactly is the code for this box found so I can see if its different to mine. I might sell it if its not right and look for the proper type, mine is a bit difficult to get into 3rd gear from time to ime but doesnt crunch. I have line the gearshift up properly with the pin the the stick and pin in the box etc. but its still not right.

Have you tried changing the oil in yours using genuine VAG gear oil?

It would be a cheaper and easier fix if it works. Have you lubricated all of the gear linkages too?

Yes done all that but its done a lot of miles and its just worn out.

It looks like a few bushes are worn out on my linkage as my car has done may miles as a taxi before I got it. I am looking for one of these if anyone has got one (picture below the white nylon thing).

The picture is not from my car by the way.
