Alignment

Featured Replies

Just to say to all you owners out there that think alignment ain't worth worrying about. GET IT DONE.

I had two new front tyres fitted today and a full laser alignment. Was out on every wheel, OOPPPsss

But now its all sorted, the car is completely different, drives like a new car. Also alot less noise on the motorway.

So I would say go get you car sorted now if in any doubt.

Have got mine booked in at Midland VW at the end of the month as I've got sawtoothing the OSR.

Hopefully the (re)alignment will correct this and, but the sounds of it, make the car feel a little bit better as all round.

Yes would agree, did mine about a week ago, certainly made a big difference

Made a big difference to mine, so +1. Better turn in, smoother transition into and out of turn. My partner commented how inproved it was, without me mentioning anything.

I used Jeff Fowlkes at Ibstock. They reset the rears to the later camber values too. No sign of sawtoothing yet.

Tyres appear to be lasting much better too.

Try www.alineyourcar.co.uk these guys are great if your in midlands and cheap too!

Does this affect all octys? I have a 12 plate, or have they sorted this out now...maybe doubtfull as my steering wheel wasn't even on straight!

Do you guys and girls in the UK have issues with shoddy alignments?

I had one shop do two of my cars a few years back and they screwed up both of them. Chewed out a set of new front tyres in 15,000km and swam all over the road. I had another shop in the past bend a track rod on another vehicle because the adjuster nut wouldn't turn. They didn't think anything wrong with 4mm toe-in on the rear (bent axle case, the alignment was requested to confirm this).

These have left me a little hesitant to deal with most alignment shops.

I got a mate who owned a tyre shop in a remote city to sort them out, which he did. But he has since sold the business and moved on.

So, what is the muppet to master ratio in UK alignments?

Quite high.

My 10 plate came with the tracking out & steering wheel off-centre as a result.

I didn't trust Skoda to look at it as they don't have the right equipment.

£70 later at Wheels in Motion in Chesham and it was perfect. Still perfect 22 months later.

You will save the £70 in tyre wear alone.

Good luck sorting it. It's a shame really that a new car can't come perfectly sorted!

Have a look at Align My Car website to find your nearest Hunter specialist, but there is another system that is similar / better at some places (sorry, don't know what it is called).

I'll let you know how I get on with 'the other system' at the end of the month when I get mine adjusted.

Had mine done by Skidmarques, in Brentwood, which is a Hunter specialist. The car handled so much better and was quieter as well.

My 07 Octavia is booked in tomorrow morning for full wheel alignment/geomtry + suspension health check. Thinking a can of worms will be opened. There seems to be something loose and noisey from the front end

Had mine done after reading of the 'common' rear camber problems on here. Took it to Protyres in Blandford as they did a good job on my old Vectra B GSi. The fronts were fine but both rears were over -2 degrees. They corrected it to the 'revised' -1.2.

The align my car site gives you a 5% discount , I downloaded it and printed it out.
