Has anyone got the swing radio with the Bluetooth? I'm just wondering as surely there is just a Bluetooth module and mic you can add to upgrade it?

The module is all built in to the hu.

You can get the bluetooth module and retrofit, various people on here have done it. It is said to be a relatively simple job, just tricky taking off some of the trim to run the mic cable. To get full functionality you need to then get someone with vcds to get it going.

I am thinking about it for mine, still waiting on a response email from the carsystems to confirm the correct module for my car though. With the current weakness of the Euro, it is a good deal at present.

I have sent them another email this afternoon as nothing heard yet. Will let you know what they recommend.

I think Shark offer a supply and fit for this so may call them if carsystems don't respond, but haven't tried them yet as think it a bit cheeky to get the info off them and then not use them. But the £399 quoted on their site seems a tad high when the unit costs about £200 after exchange rates and shipping.

A fitting guide would be really useful. I have searched around and there isn't one for the Fabia, just a VW Golf, Polo and Beetle.

Which unit have you decided upon? The specs on the different ones on the carsystems website seem so similar and I'm not sure about the specs for my car in the terms they use so want to get something in writing/email from them first.

Well, parcel arrived today from carsystems and as I had the afternoon off decided to have a play around. About an hour and a half later all fitted and tools put away.

I've taken a few photos with various bits removed so may try and do a fitting guide, but in reality it is actually quite a simple job, just a bit fiddly at times. Especially with fitting it all back in with the cables which others have commented on. The VW fitting guides show the Bt unit und the passenger seat but doesn't seem room in the Fabia.

On the wiring loom you get which fits in between the standard connector and the back of the swing unit there was a couple of connectors not attached to anything, seemed to be able to be connected together but not connected when supplied. Microphone cable goes is elsewhere. Not sure what they are for but seems to work without them.

Not sure what VCDS unlockes but maxidot recognised it immediately and I can make and recieve calls very easily. The buttons on the steering wheel don't do anything other than mute (maybe that's what it unlocks). But fully control is via maxidot and the right hand stalk buttons.

Mic was fairly simple just awkward. The mic clips into the lighting unit in the headliner. To remove this take off the plastic cover, flat bladed screwdriver on the edge closest to the windscreen. Then there are two crossheaded screws which will release the unit. There is a piece of foam where the mic goes, just take that off and clip in the mic. I found it easier to remove the unit behind the lights, where the alarm sensor and sunglass holder is. Again flatbladed screwdriver but this time in the side at towards the rear of the car, it then pivots on the front. Gives you much better access. Then I removed the passenger pillar cover and used some old wire to run above the headlining, with a bit of tape to then pull the mic cable through. Cable then down the pillar and run behind the upper glovebox (comes out with just two torex screws).

I'll dig out the link for the system they recommended for me later as I don't have it to hand.

It is not within the Skoda bit of their site, comes under VW. But I checked with them that this was not a mistake, they confirmed it was the right one and now fitted it works. I know Panosm was recommended a different unit, but looking on their site they all seem so similar it was better to ask them specifically just in case there was an issue.

I ordered it last Tue and it arrived today with their standard delivery, having toured around Poland and Germany on the way to the UK.

Prise off the swing surround, comes away without much force. This reveals 4 torex screws, once these are removed the unit just pulls out. There are two cable attachments at the back, the large one comes out by undoing the clip on it, turning this pops the cable out. The smaller of the clips (two wires) is unlocked by pulling out the tab on the side of it, then just pulls off (I did use a screwdriver to gently prise it off rather than just grab the wires and hope).

The upper glove box has two screws, undo them and then pull it out. Dash side panel is prised off with the trusted flat bladed screw driver. That, with bits above, is about all the bits I had to remove to fit it.

I have seen some posts on here about radio codes, I didn't have any issue with the radio locking up or wanting a code input. Just came back on as normal.

Those extra connectors are for enabling voice recognition and so on.. Check this image http://db.tt/ul49LDwO

Only thing that vcds enables is the button on the steering wheel; if you have Columbus you get voice dialing but with swing it should only work as answer button. When pulling the mic cable behind the top glovebox be certain to pull it behind the airbag system.

Not fussed about voice dialling so can't be bothered to take it out and adjust.

But nothing I am bothered about. Would be useful to have the answer facility, there is someone local to me who has the right VCDS so will try and get that sorted shortly.

Ahh well I have routed the Bluetooth wire under the carpet and under the passenger seat. I then used 3 very small self tapping screws to secure it to the floor carpet. I plan to use self adhesive hooks and loops tape to Velcro it to the floor when I get some so the screws are temporary. The Mic, I managed to zip tie it to the wires going down the passenger pillar (the front windscreen one) with the other wiring loom. I then dropped the cable down until it hung to the floor and went under the base of my mdi unit and re secured the foam kick carpet over it. Thus to stay clear of the airbag device, I then shoved the mic cable in the gap where my Bluetooth cable went through plugged it all in and jobs a good un!!
