Swing and Bluetooth

Featured Replies

Ahh well I have routed the Bluetooth wire under the carpet and under the passenger seat. I then used 3 very small self tapping screws to secure it to the floor carpet. I plan to use self adhesive hooks and loops tape to Velcro it to the floor when I get some so the screws are temporary. The Mic, I managed to zip tie it to the wires going down the passenger pillar (the front windscreen one) with the other wiring loom. I then dropped the cable down until it hung to the floor and went under the base of my mdi unit and re secured the foam kick carpet over it. Thus to stay clear of the airbag device, I then shoved the mic cable in the gap where my Bluetooth cable went through plugged it all in and jobs a good un!!

How did you get it under the seat (ie how to remove the blanking plate on the front of the seat base)?

Did you not use the polystyrene holder the unit came with, it has velcro on it to secure it to the carpet?

Are you still going to do a guide? I tried at the weekend to get the MfSw enabled but we had a few problems, needing to do a bit more research on it. Have posted in the VCDS section but no real response so far, may have to post it in this section.

Well, parcel arrived today from carsystems and as I had the afternoon off decided to have a play around. About an hour and a half later all fitted and tools put away. I've taken a few photos with var

Blanking plate comes off no problem, it's in clips in on one side and has 1 x torx screw (centre console side) the vertical one not the horizontal one. I popped the door side off first which allowed me to investigate further and get my hand in to undo the screw. I didnt use the polystyrene carrier as it didn't sit flush so when adjusting the seat forward and backwards it caught slightly (just seamed a different shape compared to the fabias under seat contours) it's secure to the floor no problem at the moment but would prefer to Velcro it down in the future. No not as of yet but have found a octavia forum thread with all the vcds coding on. At the moment I'm in no rush as most the features only work off the stalk anyway.

Just thought i would add a bit to the topic. I was interested to hear this could be retro fitted as i contacted skoda customer service just after i purchased my fabia and was told it couldn't. I have just purchased the bluetooth module via Ebay which was £79.99 inclusive of delivery and the leads via car systems in poland which converted to £40 delivered. Im happy with that for £120.00.

If anyone is interested i did the search on ebay on Skoda bluetooth module 5k0035730d and a number of sellers do them for much the same price as i paid. I was going straight to car systems but they must of had a price increase and came in at about £180.00.

I have VCDS should i need it but found the following which is useful.http://www.mobridge.us/sites/default/files/doc/VCDS-Rosstech%20Coding%20Guide.pdf.

A bit odd but looks like the cars are set up already for telephone going by previous updates. I will update should i get the voice dialing to work.

Wilko.. Did you manage to set up the voice dial or not? I had a play around with vcds today and mine wasn't set up for telephone. I can't do too much until the kit is deliverd. It appears you can go into the mfsw and make adjustments when all is installed. Interested to hear how you got on...

I'm not fussed about voice dialling, but very keen to know how much work is needed to integrate the Bluetooth module on a new car (otherwise it'll be a Parrot for me)? Car as per my sig - don't even have a delivery date yet so its all research at the moment.. Would much prefer the "integrated" option if possible! Do I need VCDS to activate this, or is it really plug and play?

Fitting the unit takes around an hour, depending on where you place the BT unit. It is plug and play. VCDS will apparently enable the button on the MFSW to be used to initiate voice dial and answer a call, the guy who tried it for me couldn't get it going, not sure why and in reality I'm not too fussed as the Maxidot controls on the right stalk control it all anyway.

I think most of the fitting instructions are covered in this thread already but the basic steps I can remember are:

1. Remove Swing unit (pull of surround facia and unscrew 4 torx screws, unplug the connectors on the back.

2. Run the mic cable (remove the rear panel in the headlining and the light cluster which made it a bit easier to move things around, pull off the windscreen upright cover and then using an old coat hanger or similar run the cable above the headlining and clip the mic into the holder on the alarm sensor panel)

3. Run the mic cable behind the upper glove box (easy removal) and then into the back of the swing housing.

4. Locate the BT unit where you want to and run the cable to the back of the swing housing. I hid it down the back of the swing housing but in VWs they store it under the passenger/driver seat this can be done in the Furby but the polystyrene holder is too big.

5. Connect up all the wires and put the Swing unit back in.

6. Replace all other bits.

With this all done when you turn on the ignition and go into the maxidot menu the phone option should now appear, select this then you can go through the new options to connect up the BT with your phone, mp3 player etc. When your BT player is streaming music, press the media button on the Swing and it should give you BT Audio as a new option.

Sounds a lot worse than it is. Pretty simple job in the end.

This is the system carsystems recommended for me:

http://www.carsystem...ssor,id334.html

It is not within the Skoda bit of their site, comes under VW. But I checked with them that this was not a mistake, they confirmed it was the right one and now fitted it works. I know Panosm was recommended a different unit, but looking on their site they all seem so similar it was better to ask them specifically just in case there was an issue.

I ordered it last Tue and it arrived today with their standard delivery, having toured around Poland and Germany on the way to the UK.

Finally I get to order one and they're out of stock....

Have seen the base unit on fleabay for about £80 delivered, but any idea which cable/mic you need? It does get a bit confusing....

Carsystems have various different units which I believe will work as others on the forum who have fitted them seem to have got different ones recommended by the company, possibly down to what they have available.

Is this a non-starter without maxidot??

Well....

Its a 2012 vRS and with a bluetooth module and leads from eBay it all works!

Some tricks though - the leads I got didn't have the pass through for the MDI so had to unclip it from the car loom and just push it into the back of the Stereo (no retaining clip on the new connector  ) but the menu popped up on the Maxidot and managed to pair 2 phones up (personal and work) within a few minutes.

Bluetooth module is currently located up behind the passenger dash, up the side of the MDI shelf and the bottom glovebox. Wire routing to the roof (for the Mic) was aided with removal of the top glovebox (2 screws and a good jiggling) and the side plate to the dash facia. Pulled the door seal off to gain access to the headlining void and with the ultrasonic bit out managed to get my hands under (over?) the visor to pull the wire through. Did the mic with the light unit in place - fiddly but possible as you have to remove the foam bung first then fit the mic with the wire pointing to the windscreen.

Hopefully will try it on the move tomorrow but a test sat outside the house looks promising.

Bluetooth unit from eBay was obviously out of a scrapper as had to delete 3 old pairings....Hopefully will have loan of a VCDS setup shortly to try and configure the steering wheel button to answer as reaching for the "OK" button on the stalk is a pain!

EDIT: This the cable set: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300708558266 but as I mentioned, doesn't have the MDI connection (blue), so that needs "bypassing"...

Can't seem to find any on ebay at present! :-(

No second hand modules currently on ebay though.

There will be shortly. The chap who i bought mine off is on Holiday at the moment returning soon as has 10+.. To be honest there is not a huge price difference when you take into account cost of leads and microphone anyway. you save about £40.

Leads with microphone were £50.99 delivered; Bluetooth module £75.00 post free. That was the grand total - £125.99.

You'd need to check if any lead set gets the MDI section of cable (tricky to see from pictures) as mine didn't...and i've no idea which cable it should be in order to do it. That is, of course, assuming you have an MDI port!

I'm also keeping an eye out for second hand units. Been told today that it isn't possible because my mfw doesn't have buttons on both sides! I can't seem to remember buttons on both sides of the wheel in the demo car I drove that had it fitted! Which is right?

Only got buttons on the LHS on mine. "Mute" button doesn't answer the call (have to use the stalk) but I gather thats a VCDS switchover needed. Not bothering me at the moment...

Phil,

Can you provide me with links as I want to purchase these and am getting lost with all the different options people are buying!

Going to attempt this tonight :) but had a quick check last night and i couldn't get the pillar housing off, i can try to prise it off at the top but it only comes out so far, i'm worried about snapping it. what area of the pillar should i attack it from? i've got a trim removing tool or should i go for the trusty screwdriver? thanks

:)

Do you mean the inner trim of A pillar? Added some pics to see the clips. Start pulling from the top ;)
