Wireless PCI card?

Featured Replies

On a regular desktop PC tower? Does that mean it would talk to my Netgear router/modem thing without me needing to have any network cables trailing everywhere?

Thanks

Presuming that your 'Netgear router/modem thing' is a wireless Netgear router/modem thing then Yes.

Generally runs much slower than manufacturers claims, but plenty fast enough for web browsing etc.

Yes , they work.

I've put one in my mum's Dell PC and bought her a wireless router cause I couldn't be arsed trailing cables around

Thanks - I'll admit to looking at a tower on ebay with one, but once I put max bid in, it was outbid straight away, so not bothering with that one now. I just first at thought that wireless was a laptop only thing, but now I've been put right. :D

Have one myself as I can't/won't wreck the house for cabling two floors up, and it works fine - for LAN speeds as well. I do have a g card with SpeedBooster technology so I'm running up to and above 100 Mbit.

One thing though - link it up with an outdoor or an extended-wire antenna to get a better signal. The iron backside of the desktop case will disturb the signal too much if the antenna is right behind it. So be sure to get a card with a detachable antenna.
