Cheapest way to lower

Featured Replies

At the risk of coming accros as a cheapskate, I would like to reduce the gap between the arch and tyre

I love the handling, and minus a RARB upgrade dont want le mans handling

all I want i to suck the wheel into the arch a little maybe 25 - 30mm

any thoughts ?

My opinion is because the car is so high as stock, just springs alone dont have much of an effect. Cheap set of coilovers can be had for £250ish iirc which will give you some high adjustment.

Fill foot wells and boot with wet sand will be the cheapest although if you are caught with a hose pipe adding the water in the wrong county - it may prove more costly in the long run. I suggest you contact your local water authority to be certain ;)

Buy a metro with hydrolastic suspension. They always self lowered ;)

On a serious note, Cheap coilovers is probly the best option. £200 isnt alot of money really... When you think its £150 for lowering springs anyway.

Having owned (well the wfe anyway) our 1st VRS for 5 years i'm fairly new to the Fab modding scene. Coilovers for £200. Tell me more and in particular the OP as it's his question.

I'm fairly handy with a spanner (brakes, exhausts and the like) - is the swap to coil overs a task which is fairly straight forward job for the drive at home?

Apologies for the thread hijack

Rears are easy, Front is more difficult and wouldn't advise it to be done if you dont know what your doing or at least... have a decent range of tools and sombody to help you. Will take a few hours for you to do. I recon i could do rears in about 30 minutes with air tools and a ramp

Apparently these are crap, be better off just putting springs on there

JOM seem to get good reviews from those that fit them, who says they're crap?

Eibach springs will give a 25mm drop, or H&R go to 30mm for a little bit more dosh.

You can get springs for around £100.00 or a set of coilovers for around £200.00.

Yet to hear anything bad against Jom's for the money.

i run these coilies and there good for the money, decent adjustment just make sure you creese them up especially when you put them into the hub :)

they look the right length :giggle:

Another +1 for JOMs although I will be ripping mine off later in the year for some damping adjustable bilstein or kw's :)

JOM's too hard or soft ?

Neither tbh, when it was very low they were very soft but it's kinda to be expected as you create less and less spring tension as you get lower due to the way they lower.

I've got mine somewhere in the middle and find them good and more comfortable than SEATs set up of over sprung and under damped suspension.

They do get firmer the higher you go obviously.
