MDI on Elegance Greenline II

Featured Replies

Should be getting my new car in a couple of weeks. I opted for the MDI, but to be honest, I know very little about it. I have both an iPhone 4 and an iPad (the new one). Can I simply connect either of these top the car and play whatever music/videos are on the iPhone/iPad? Will I need to buy a specific cable?

You will need an iPod specific cable, they are about £20 from a dealer, or you could try and get one thrown in? I have got a brand new one you can have for a tenner :-)

I have the MDI fitted to my car and I was given FOC the interface cable. I have connected it up to my wife's old I Pod and was peasenty suprised to see it all (full menue and log) come up on the screen. This ipod will not hold a charge on its own but works fine with the car. Most impressed.

£20 from a dealer!?! SEAT charge £60 for the same cable, and I know VW charge £60 for it.

You can get them for about £9/£10 on eBay.

The MDI will let you select music from the radio, as opposed to operating the iPod, and you also be able to control it with steering wheel controls if you have them. It will also full integrate with the MFD/Maxidot display.

You are being stiffed then, Alex Lawrie Skoda charged me £20 + VAT for the USB Cable so I could use an Android phone and I bought my iPod cable from Warrington Volkswagon at £20 + VAT after retrofitting the VW version to the wifes Polo.

I have got an iPod one and a USB spare sitting on the shelf at home at the moment still in OEM packaging.

As it's SEAT, maybe they are trying to cover their deficit with raised prices on MDI Cables :)

Yet to truly understand what a Maxidot display is. Sounds like some kind of sanitary towel! Does the Maxidot display just replicate info that appears on the main LCD panel?
