DAB Radio anyone?

Featured Replies

At home I have a DAB/FM receiver. When DAB launched, most of the channels were 192kb (even Radio 1) and I listened to DAB as the quality was a little better. By 2002, almost all the channels were down to 128kb. The quality is poor compared to FM, so I very rarely use DAB. I've gone back to FM.

Absolutely agree. DAB is cleverly marketed as "crystal clear digital audio" but its audio quality is much lower quality than FM. If you can find what you want to listen to on FM, then give DAB a miss!

Doubt this could fit if you have the Bluetooth module also fitted though, as the quad connectors and wiring would get very clumsy.

Two lots of quad connectors can be done as I have one for the bluetooth and one for the mdi and although very very fiddly they can be got in.

Which order did you connect them in??

DAb versus FM - done to death in the Hi-Fi press. Defacto - DAB cannot technically be superior sound quality to FM because of the stingy bit rates. It >COULD< be excellent but as usual the broadcasters have gone for quantity over quality and instead of tramsmitting high bit rate (320kbps and above) they go for 128 or even 64.

Also typical UK has chosen a different DAB standard to the everybody else - cheers guys - yet another example of arrogance - a bit like lets go and build our early warning aircraft on an 60's airliner rather than just buy the ready made offering from the USA based on a good old Boeing. Result - our AWACS is now sitting in bits after being scrapped because it never worked. Still, we spent billions and "protected UK jobs".....I digress...........

FM getting "switched off" in 2015 - not a chance in hell and the deadline has now been abolished by the government due to the poor uptake of the technology.

While I do subscribe to the maxim "each to their own", I would suggest a visit to an audiologist to have your hearing checked if you prefer DAB to FM!

Err iirc bluetooth then mdi, so mdi closest to Columbus.
