Questions about Vag com

Hi

I've bought a 2003 superb 1,9TDI for a couple of months ago and am really pleased with it.

Just for fun I've ordered a ODBII to USB cable from ebay.

(USB VAG COM KKL 409.1 OBD2 OBDII Cable Scanner ISO9141 for audi volkswagen skoda)

I'm still waiting for it, but i'm starting to wonder if it is dangerous.

I've seen a few really expensive cables and some cheaper ones, I chose a cheap one.

Are there bigger risks of screwing things up with my cheap cable than for exaple a real Ross-Tech cable?

And will I be able to do the same things with my cheap one as I could do with the other one?

Will I for example be able to program the windows to close when i lock my car?

Will i be able to remap the car?

I'll appriciate all serious answers :)

(Sorry for my bad english)

You can easily ruin your cars computer with any cable if you don't know what you are doing. There should be a list somewhere, which will show you the different options the car can be programmed with. As for the remap, I wouldn't even try. Get it remapped at a professional, who knows what he/she is doing.

I know I can ruin the cars computer, but what i'm wondering about is if the cable itself can do any damage to the car? I'm thinking if there something wrong with the cable or something.

And as for the remap part, I didn't plan to remap my self, but rather extract the cars "software" and send it to a proffesional so he could re-write it, and send it back to me. Then I could just transfer the remapped software to the car?

The cable I've ordered came in the mail today, will try it out tomorrow:)

Any non genuine (i.e pirated) cable will not be as good as the ross-tech ones, even if they do work, I wouldn't trust them 100%

No, you can't remap the car, even with real VCDS.

Forgive my stupid nature but a cable is just that it cannot cause something to fail as it does not generate any information and as long as the connection points are not forced. How can it be wrong?

The cable will not be any different from the professional versions besides the components and maybe speed etc. It is, of course, made from cheaper components, which could fail easier that the high quality cables. Remember that supporting pirated software and cables wont send any money the copyright owners and it's prohibited discussing this on these forums. When that's said i understand why you would want a cheaper version, as the price for the originals is ridiculous.

No you cant upload remapped softwares or even download via VCDS. You will need expensive and original car software as far as i know.
