Getting New Octavia 1.6Tdi with 7 speed Dsg!

Featured Replies

Congratulations to the sales guy in Cambridge!! He sold me a new motor yesterday, after me leading him on a right old game for almost 2weeks!! (He contacted me, I wasn't looking for a change of motor!!)

I turned down 9 cars before this one, mainly because they were too expensive, & he wasn't getting where I wanted to be payment & deposit wise!!

I am going for a less sporty, economical motor this time, from an Octavia 2.0tfsi vrs to a 1.6 Tdi SE Plus with 7 speed Dsg box, Satnav, cruise, parking sensors & blue tooth equipment!! Test drove one yesterday, & was quite impressed with it!! It's Satin Grey metallic, didn't choose the colour, new builds taking months to be done, this one had been cleared by the exit port, & was waiting to be shipped to the uk, It could go to any dealership, so I paid a deposit to secure the vehicle, will be finishing the paperwork Wednesday, & should be in it early June!!

Didn't know they are putting the 7 speed DSG into the 1.6TDI - interesting!

I had the 7 speed in a Fabia vRS I had for a bit and loved it.

Though, I do love DSG :D

Congrats on your new purchase

Excellent choice. The one I would go for. Be interested to see what you mpg levels off as when you start to get some miles under your belt.

Th Sports mode should be great when you need to get a shifty on or are well loaded.

They are quite rare but I would love to try one so might speak to Skoda Cambridge if they have one as I often visit Cambridge as I have one of my offices over there.

Let us know how you get on with the choice of the diesels. Wonder if they will get the chip to map as that would be fun, 60 mpg and 140 hp maybe.

We have had a 1.6 cr with the 7 speed DSg since Sept 2010, got just over 28,000 on her.

Just back from Strandmills in Belfast via Whiteabbey and Glengormley, 56 miles i think, 2 up all the time, plus an 18 stone surcharge for part of the run.

photos took will post tommorow.

Indicated 68.1 mpg for the journey at an indicated ave speed of 45 mph, belfast traffic etc.

Plus on the trip 2 function got 58.2? indicated over the last 400 odd miles.

Mixed driving, incl 3 miles to and from work and repeated 1 mile journeys at work

Enjoy your car.

cheers

Sounds fantastic.

Do you find it OK when fairly loaded or better to drive in Sports mode and then switch to Drive when on the open road or when in town and wanting some cut and thrust driving?

Thinking of ordering one but wondering one ordering times and if one might have to wait to the Octy 3?

I played with the Sports mode a little when the car was new, never bother with it now, if one uses the kick-down function it dont see that it makes much difference, other than holding un-necessary engine revs (imho)

Never used Sport when in the "mountains" in the Balkans, some seriousely steep twisty roads there, only 2 up but loaded with a month long touring holidays worth of luggage and other "clag"

I did endouver to run the engine in with suitable high speed/high load work, which hopefully will stand us in good stead for the next 200 or 250,000 miles.

I dont think I could go back to a manual now, since we are all automatic.

I actually took it odd driving the daughters wee new Yaris diesel, its a proper honey of an engine and gearbox, but I kept "forgetting" to change.

Derp! as wor Son would say

OOps Photos,

Dealer reckons It'll be ready in one to two weeks!! Annoying, as will have to tax my vrs for 6 months Thursday, & claim back 5 months when new car is ready!!

Also need petrol, in the red!! Got 460 miles to do this weekend!!

Sounds fantastic? But it isn't as good as your VRS or the 1.8TSI is it?!

Really miss the 1.8 TSI L&K DSG.

Yes the Fabia and Octavia VRS do 0-60 in 7 seconds but the 1.8 TSI was only half a second slower to 60 but it could do 60 miles more than the VRSs and had so many luxuries.

The 1.6 DSG would be so great with its 700 mile range, relaxed cruising in 7th gear and so low running costs, For just siting on the motorway it would be epic I am sure, must get a test drive.

Gearbox in auto on town & village roads, will insist on going into 6th & 7th!! Annoying!! I change to tiptronic at 5th, to hold the gear, much better in 30 & 40 mph limits.

That is my one niggle, got daytime running lights off, if they were leds, fair enough, but just displaying headlights, nah!!

Anyone know what SD card to get to put my music on? Like the idea of that, saves carrying cds!!

Satnav made one mistake, gave correct turn instruction, but wrong road name, was on A1M about to join A14, was told to take next exit & join A1M!!

Only done 530 miles so far, so not reached optimum fuel economy, book says 67mpg on motorway, getting 58 at mo, but engine will still be a bit tight I would have thought!

Overall, quite impressed, & happy!!

Glad to see someone getting a car. Still no sign of mine. will phone AC today...ooops wednesday..
