hello which oil should i go for i can get valvoline at the right money shud i go for 5/40 durablend or the XL111 long service oil? i will be changing every 8k from now on. it has been on the extended service oil up to now and doesnt burn any? many thanks.

I'm pretty sure your Octavia doesn't have a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). As far as I'm aware non of the 1.9 TDi engines fitted in the Octavia did.

This means if you are on fixed servicing (1 year / 10,000 miles) then you can use VW 505.00 diesel oil.

If I were you though I'd go for the slightly more expensive long life oil (VW 507.00) designed for use on DPF equipped cars or those on variable servicing.

It is important you use an oil with these specs listed on the bottle as these are the oils that have been tested and approved for use with your car.

The "PD" engines need VW505.01 if there's no DPF

I have been using COMMA PD in my 2.0Tdi PD, it is very well priced on Camskill.co.uk

If the car has a DPF you will need to use VW507

think i may use valvoline durablend 505.01 5/40 or comma pd 505.01.

What about the "VAG approved" oil lists? As far as I remember, Comma was not on the list. Valvoline DuraBlend 5W40 definitely is though.

will go for the valvoline

I've been using the Comma for about 200,000kms, it states VW505.01 on the label and its called Comma Diesel "PD" it seems to be doing the trick and its the cheapest VW505.01 I could find.

Nothing wrong with Comma oil at all.

It's actually made by Esso / Exxon who also produce Halfords own brand oil.

Comma oil is very popular in the trade too.
