Swapping Furby vRS for Octy VRS - Discuss...

Featured Replies

I was at my Skoda dealer recently, where they had a 2001 Octy v?RS for 9,000 pounds, 40k or so on it, red, hatchback version, looked to be in excellent cond., haven't really studied one close up before, liked the look of it, which has now got me thinking about swapping the Furby (6mths old, 14k on it already). Am I mad, what would the pros and cons be, is that a good price for the Octy, obviously insurance would be higher, fuel bills too, but would it be worth it in terms of driving enjoyment, plus what sort of price would mine be worth, currently paid off 6mths worth of finance, would the dealership be wary of such a deal if I contacted them about it?

Do it, whats there to disscuss? :peepwall:

Joel

PS totaly bias view of course

One consideration might be what warranty the dealer are prepared to offer you on the Octy as it is a 4 year old car. :) Why not book a test drive and see how it compares to the Fabia? :D

Chris

I'm not sure it'd be any more fun to drive than the Fabia... the Fabia is a smaller car, with a much more raucous power delivery, so even though the Octy is quicker, it wont feel it.

Fuel bills wont be as bad as you think. Insurance for me was

We have one of each parked on our drives.

You will notice higher fuel bills.

Octy doesn't 'feel' as fast as the furby but then you look at the speedo and cack your pants.

Octy has oodles of boot space and is a much more comfortable drive.

Like has been mentioned, have a test drive first.

Am in two minds, of course it could already be sold to someone else so that would be that decided, but it has got me thinking about it, also, what is the next model down from the Octy RS in terms of engine output? Is servicing much more expensive than the Furby? Has anyone else on Briskoda had similar thoughts? I can just picture my furby with a little tear in the corner of the light at my lusting after other cars...

Assuming you're talking Octy 1, it's the 1.8T-150bhp as featured in the Elegance/L&K/SLX :D And yep, I've been looking into them of late, but my mileage is still over 20k a year, so I'm going to stick with killing the Furby for the time being and save towards an Octy diesel ;)

Chris

I was at pilling last week sitting in the showroom whilst waiting for my fabia to be serviced. There was a nice Red Octi vRS which made me think, hmmm that's nice I wonder what if I swapped it?

Trouble is it would cost too much in fuel and to be honest there is nothing wrong with the fabia si I might aswel stick with it. But if the amount of mileage I do was to change then it might be tempting

That's the thing, I would do quite a bit of driving to work, but live right beside the train station, the only reason why I would drive to work is because I am too lazy to get up early and get the train,so maybe, just maybe (this is the Brilliant part of the plan) if I got the Octy it would turn me into a better person, ie. I would have to get up to get the train, which in turn would mean less miles on the car, and less spent on petrol, whereas now, I just lie in, get in car and pelt down the motorway, then pelt home again, covering a total of 120 (yea u read that right) miles in the process. The thought of putting so many miles on the Octy so soon into owning in would then deter me from driving to work, so would get train instead, save money, everybody's happy. Alternative plan is to give back Furby, break up with GF, move to Big Smoke, spend more on living expenses and get fat from beer...

Like Andy (spinndrift) we have one of each.True on the speed front, the octy is doing rather high speeds in very little time! Furby is great fun and only gripe is boot space. It's ok though.Enough for the shopping!

Looks wise,no contest really.Octavia wins hands down every time.Looks stunning .Mean, moody and sexy. Not had a car where I keep looking at it and thinking 'wow'.Looks great :D

Fab looks nice and chunky but can't touch the octavia which has rather more rarity value than the Fab too.

Am going to go this week and see if they still have the car, if so then I'll take it for a test drive, and then discuss it with the dealer, see what they reckon, although I'll bet they won't just take the Furby back and transfer the finance to the Octy, probably reckon. due to the 6mths ownership. that I owe them money or something, or charge me to transfer the finance plan across, some sort of craziness like that...

The swap to Octy/train to work, may not be as financially less as the current situation, It would be worth actually working it out.

You would still have the fuel to the station ( unless you can walk ), the parking cost @the station, and the season ticket for the train. ( hope your trains are reliable ). I personally would not be happy @ leaving a vRS in a train station car park :(

Altho the move & getting fat on beer sounds good ( cant you take the GF best of both worlds) :)

The train station is literally next door, so I can walk to it, or if I miss the train there I can drive 4 miles down the road to the next stop, which has a free and safe carpark, season ticket for train would work out less than diesel costs to drive down to work, wondering what the difference in insurance costs would be, I'm 28, driving for 5 years, 3 years no claims, that could well be a killer, although might be evened up by having less to pay per month...

2001 octy 9000 quid with 40k on the clock, no thanks. Went in my local dealers to order my fabia vrs last week and they have brand new octy's in there for a little over 12 grand why have one thats four years old!!!!!!

Especially when i've got a 2003 1st Sept Octy vRS for sale for under

Its an Octy RS, and its in excellent condition as far as I could see, plus it'd be less to pay off every month, quicker, more comfortable, easier to keep seats clean, bigger boot, more road presence blah blah blah, basically I don't want to pay as much as I am doing per month at the minute, but still want a performance Skoda of some description, 2nd hand Octy from the same dealer would mean I could hopefully transfer my finance plan across, just trying to work out if the less paid per month for the car itself would be offset by the fuel bills (bearing in mind I wouldn't be driving as far), MOT costs, and higher insurance ...

Get a new one and take it over a few more years, I just got

34 mpg tops on Octy, I average 29 but then I have stoopid wing.

Will it save you...depends on the finance, see if there is an exit fee, if you can pay off early...

Take personal loan to pay off, pay it off trade in dealer should give you a cheque back pay that into loan.

However that might be pointless if dealer will not buy back or finance has a early pay off fee. Might be worth seeing if the dealer will just buy the car back, there is still demand for them so it might be an option, espcially since you lost your job last week *get the lemon juice on a paper cut before you go in ;) *

Then your free ish to buy 2nd hand. Not sure on NI reg's but you could buy a uk car and reregister? Would mask the UK'ness of it for obvious reasons if thats an issue...

Price has dropped to 8750, sounding better and better...

I would be flogging the vRS to a dealer as they are still much sought after so you shouldn't lose to much

Then snap Alex's hand off.I'm sure that would be one well looked after extra special bargain.Worth a short trip over ;)
