"White worm" again Yeti/Superb etc.

Featured Replies

Just had 1st service done and a recall that turned out to be for the "motif".

I'd noticed the white worm beginning to show on the front badge and was rather surprised when I collected it to find that the rear one had been replaced but not the front!

The Service Receptionist located the jobsheet with the recall notice attached and it definitely said that the rear badge should be replaced, no reference to the front one.

Finished up with the receptionist taking a photo of the front badge for querying with SUK.

I had my rear badge replaced last summer, but have recently noticed that the replacement also has problems. I'm due in for a service sometime in the next couple of months, so will see about getting a third badge.

Last time I looked my rear badge was unaffected, but the front has it bad, had previously seen it was only for rear, otherwise I would have got it sorted.

It is just bizarre Skoda seems to be affected by this, are the badges made of something different? :wait:

I had the rear badge replaced yesterday for a recall, it was fine, but the front one is riddled with white lines, strange recall for only the rear.

I too had the rear badge replaced last week although to be honest it didn't appear affected. When I asked the receptionist if I'd be back for another one in a while he reckoned Skoda had addressed the problem of the white worm by modifying the covering on it...............we shall see!

I had my rear badge replaced in April last year, after making a complaint about the "worm" It's now just as bad as before, and the front one is also going the same way.

Just have them fit the new style badges instead...

Is that a choice available under warantee?

Fred

Cleaned Gustav today and both front and rear badges have now got the dreaded white worm. Not due to been seen by the dealer for his second service until Jan 2013 so I will wait until then. I don't really want them replaced for the another badge that will do the same in 12 months so I was hoping that they had had then remanufactured to prevent it happening. If not may have a look at replacing them for the new badge which hopefully will be of better quality.

It's not only Skoda that this seems to affect, though the newest ones of these wheel centres that I usually get up close to is around 3 years old, I have yet to see a good one from this manufacturer.

Hey?

Does this REALLY matter?

Zzzzzzzzzzz

I find myself unable to be bothered about this too. I rather like the new style badges although it is a step to just have an emblem rather than the name. I've a feeling that they may be pandering to brand prejudice rather than being proud of their heritage.

Do they come in the proper size?

By heritage do you mean 1960's style logos?

This one is from an old locomotive. There are more here.

I was just going to say that, the name didn't appear on the badges until VW got involved, so this is the heritage look.

Corrected, and delighted to be led to a little history.

Personally I was quite surprised to find out that this exact emblem design was officially registered by Skoda on 15th December 1923.

Along with this one:

P.S. found a topic on the history of skoda logo: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/114494-skoda-logo/

Now I know it is the 1923 design I am a convert and want some for my Yeti-anyone know if they are available in our size?

From my ETKA, John, the part numbers for 2011 and 2013MY appear to be identical at the moment :(

Would be a cute little mod eventually!

There are a couple of threads over in the Octavia forum with pictures of the new badges fitted to an Octavia, Fabia and Superb.

The only current Skoda with the new badges fitted from new is the CityGo and there is talk of having to remove tabs and plugs off the back etc. so I am assuming the Octy, Fabia and Superb have the same or very similar sized badges to the CityGo.

Isn't the rear badge on the Yeti quite big?

Front still OK but back just starting to go on the Yeti, wife's Fabia however has the worst rear badge issue I've yet seen, as its starting to delaminate like an onion. Goes in on Monday for the Turbo recall so the dealers going to have a look at the badge as well.

TP,

I inputted(?) my Vin Number here http://www.skoda-aut...s/assembly.aspx

It told me that there was a recall on my car but not what it was. When I booked my service I told them about the recall and they checked on their system and found it was for "Motif" i.e. badge. They had the part ready when I took it in, but only the rear one as reported earlier.

Thanks for the link Fred

Sadly however every time I've tried it, it tells me to try later as the service is not available :S

Wife took her Fabia in today for the turbo recall and despite telling them the badge was 'shot' in advance, the dealer hadn't ordered a replacement as they needed to see for themselves; so back next week waisting time and another gallon or so of fuel (48 mile round trip) :wall:

Same here. Get "

Sorry, this service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

Link kept, thanks g6zru

The 'chrome' bits on those look like a separate piece to the black background rather than the current one piece badge.

TBH I am not a huge fan of the new ones and I quite like the current ones .... or at least I did before the white worm set in, but if these are indeed separate pieces (like a VW badge) then I may be tempted so the white worm doesn't return again.
