Fuel Cap Problem and a few questions

Featured Replies

Picked up my VRS on Sunday and I'm very happy with it, gave it a very quick clean tonight. I randomly opened the fuel cap but now it wont shut!

I took some a couple of pictures....

Very annoying!!

My other questions are mainly regarding exterior trim,

The chrome surround on the grill - does the whole grill need removing to take it apart?

The number plate surround, - can this be removed without removing the bumper - it would look some much better gloss black.

Same as above for the plastic trims behind the fog lights.

Last but not least the side strips - just a hair dryer to remove these? Is the glue a PITA to remove?

Thanks :)

It'll be easier to take it all apart, its only held on the bonnet with 4 torx screw iirc, should come off and split into 3 pieces.

Yes, its held on with plastic clips all the way round. again might be easier with the bumper off but overkill for the job. never removed vrs fog trims but standard spec ones are just held on with clips.

I made a thread a month or two ago about removing these, do a search for my username and you should find it no problem.

i used a heat gun and they came off no problem at all, nothing els used, just heated up a corner, pushed it up and down a little, got my hand behind it and slowly pulled it off applying heat to it as i go.

oh and as for the fuel cap... you can remove the full internal rubber surround bit with 1 torx screw to the left of the filler nozzle, the clip that holds it shut only slides onto a cut out on the chassis or a bit of other plastic visible with the rubber bit off...

hope this helps!

The grill come off with a couple or torque screws, can then pop the chrome bit off. It can be reattached without the chrome bit while you paint it.

Fog light surrounds just pull off.

Side stripes just need heating up & the glue removed using toffee wheel/elbow grease. Also do a little end bit first to see if there's any paint issues, they hold water so sometimes start bubbling behind the glue.

Cheers guys! I fixed the fuel cap, it had come apart behind the carpet in the boot :)

Thanks for the help, will give the side strips a search now and have a look at removing the other bits, they'd look so much better in gloss black!

Going to split the head lights to tiny those to! So many ideas but just not enough time :(

How do I remove the front bumper?

Is it easy to align when putting back on?

I've done a search but on my phone and it only brings up the last 15 or so topics with the word 'bumper' in them!
