Recently noticed oily substance leaking from the top hose when i took it off found egr was all gunked up, i know this is a problem and has been mentioned many times.

Question is what are peoples main preference to solving this issue?

Do i clean it and fit a catch can as from what i understand they stop the oil mixing with the returned exhaust gas which makes the gunk.

Or do i go with egr delete?

Any advice would be great as i am out of my knowledge zone on this one.

Ive done both on mine mate. Fitted EGR delete and Catch can. Total cost of around £70 for both and I dont have to worry about it again now and its cheaper than a replacement EGR.

mine been weeping for years but has now started leaking badly.

I've purchased a new one from eBay and will be speaking to my dealer to buy all new gaskets/seals to make sure everything is up to scratch.

ive just finished sorting mine, removed egr, inlet manifold and a couple of intercooler pipes. cleaned all the gunk from them, built back up but left egr pipe off and blocked top of exhaust manifold with a blanking gasket (£2.50) then the top breather pipe is venting away from car. so no more gunk gunk for me

worse part was cleaning the gunk, gets everywhere, messy job. didnt buy a egr delete pipe as you lose the asv plus they cost like £70. total job for me was £2.50 , result

I assume with the egr delete on an asz engine you get an eml on?

Yeah, easilly mapped out tho.

I've heard the egr delete on an asz doesn't bring on the eml, Shark mapped out the eml on my blt vrs with egr delete.
