Clutch Issues

Featured Replies

Ok just ordered all the nice new parts to fix the knocking issue on my car.. And as normal the fabia has thanked me with another issue which is quite strange.

While driving home every time I was changing gear I had to push down further and further on the peddle to get the gear to disengage. while driving if tap the pedal a few times it will restore its self only to do it again.

Sounds like some sort of auto adjust playing up?.

Anyone know what needs doing to resolve :)

Thanks again as always

The clutch is operated by hydraulics with adjustment for wear taking place by hydraulic fluid flow. There is no specific auto adjust mechanism. It sounds like you have some air in the system and pumping the pedal compensates for this briefly just like it does if you have a bit of air in the brake lines and they need bleeding. As this has happened suddenly I would suspect a leak in either clutch master cylinder, slave or the line. Search for hydraulic fluid leak. Check brake reservoir for fluid level as the clutch shares this fluid and it might be low causing brake failure.

Pretty sure skoda would have put the clutch feed higher than the brake feed.

that's the thing. The first thing I checked was the fluid levels and they where still full. Brakes are working 100%

Checked fluid levels again No drop still on the full mark. thing is all i have to do is keep tapping(part way down in the free play not a full pump) the pedal and it gives me full play again for a few uses.

So what we think its all of a sudden got air in it or could it be something else failing ?
