Its not that its loud, its just that I can't hear it and the car isn't pulling like it should, its as tho its not working??? Should ya be able to hear it all the tinne when you accelerate?

Maybe its in limp mode, which could be caused by a multitude of things such as boost leak, faulty MAF, N75 etc loads of possibilities

Limp mode I don't think lets you rev past somehwere near 2.5k rpm to protect the engine and ancillaries and you will struggle to drive briskly anywhere

Earlier today I did notice a strong smell of emissions coming from the car, could it be a faulty lamda censor causing it?

Have you checked all the boost pipes?

Sent from my GT-I9100

I'd check the breather hoses for splits before anything else if it's running rich. Have you noticed a drop in MPG? VAG hoses have a tendency to just go when they're old. Happily they're fairly cheap and easy to replace.

Ye I have noticed a drop in mpg, and I did briefly inspect air intake and boost pipes but everything looked ok , maybe I should check them more closely tomorrow? Can we rule out an emissions fault?

When I bought my mk1, there was no lights on the dash, but the top breather hose was almost split in half! Pretty obvious when I took the cover off. Lower breather hose is much harder to check, but can also cause poor running.

Weather is decent at the mo, so get amongst it. If the pipes feel tacky, I'd look to change them out as precaution anyway. I got silicone ones from Creation Motorsport for less than OEM, which is a no brainer for me anyway. Hope my 2p worth is of use mate and that you get sorted soon.

And I wouldn't rule out an emission fault completely, but the breather pipes and vac hoses are first port of call.
