NS door mirror just fell out!

Featured Replies

Well that's what the wife said! When got in from work she noticed the glass dangling from the wires.

On inspection the circular back plate was still attached to the glass, so I prised it off and attached it back onto the motor and reattached the glass. Now either I've been too gentle or there's a piece of something missing, but I can't get it to secure in the housing.

Does anyone have a parts list / diagram they can post so I can understand what I'm trying to fix?

The weird thing is, she parks in a spot where no one can catch the door mirror and knock it off, also there's no sign of damage... it does appear that it just fell out!

Ta...

There should be two kind of slightly flexible rods on the wingmirror which slot into holes/fixings on the back of the glass. It can be quite fiddly to get them lined up before applying pressure to clip in. They do make a reassuring THUNK when clicked in and they should be very secure. :)

The glass and backing plate shouldn't part company!

Sounds like the adhesive has given up the ghost!

Thanks for your comments.

With the backing was plate still attached to the mirror, it was very fiddly getting the flexible rods into the motor housing as a whole unit, that's why I removed it, it's held on with around 4 clips.

I think maybe that I didn't push the backing plate in hard enough... but then why would it fall out in the first place??

It has happened to Octavias , the hot weather has expanded it , you need to push harder till it clicks
