Ecotek Powerboost

Featured Replies

Have really worried about the smoke and bag of spanners sound of my recently bought 07 fabia vrs se

having had Peugeot 207, 307 and then a 120d bmw I was gutted that it didnt sound nice, and then on cruise control the other day on the motorway, every time i looked in the mirror there were puffs of smoke flying out the back, I was mortified !

removing the egr and intake manifold is too much for me to undertake (i fitted a new air freshener last week and lost it) so i looked at the next best thing(s)

Full service (I replaced all the filters and Kwick fit did the oil ((mobil 1 is this legit)) and it looked ok

I have been dosing fuel with millers

But today i pumped a can of powerboost through the intake just after the MAF, 2 mins @2500 rpm then rest till fans stop then the rest of the can

Drove for 10 mins after and its like a new car, less bag of spanners more gruff beefy noise, tickover sounds less poorly and power seems less spikey

only time will tell but I think it has cleared a load of crap out of the system ........strangely no smoke though !

I'm glad it worked for you - but I generally stay away from stuff like this, for quite a few reasons - many of which are summed up pretty well here:

http://www.fuelsavin...fo/cleaners.htm

Relevant bit about Ecotek Powerboost:

"(As an aside, one of the best-known "cleaning" products in the UK is Powerboost from Ecotek plc. The Advertising Standards Authority recently ruled that Ecotek did not have proof that Powerboost improved power, economy or throttle response, and as a result they are effectively banned from making these claims in print advertising.)

If I had an older (say five years or 50 000 miles) car and suspected problems with carbon build-up, my first action would be to take it for a good "thrash" as described above."

My friend used to swear by redex in old carb'd cars. I was dubious until I ran a whole bottle through a 1992 cavalier many years ago. It was like a new car afterwards - so much smoother, more response, etc. Plus a whole load of smoke as it did its stuff!! Not sure if the same logic applies to fuel injected vehicles though.

But if it worked for you, then good awesome!

I use millers in my fuel every now & then, and try to run 'premium' diesel. Nothing like an Italian tune up though!

I believe that case was in relation to the physical powerboost valves see here http://carnoisseurdirect.wordpress.com/

I tried the "italian tune up" or thrash and whilst I think it helped, its impact wasnt any where near as obvious as the impact of the "flush"

It may be the placebo effect but I feel a little more confident in her now

Exactly what Mobil One oil did they use and was it to the correct spec? Have a look http://www.briskoda....n-my-fabia-vrs/ and see if it's on the list. As for mythical cleaning solutions i'm not a massive fan but tend to put injector cleaner through every 3 months (6k).

I believe additives could, having noticed a profund difference after putting it through a tank. The following 2 tanks were the best on mpg by about 5 or 6mpg, with the exact same type of driving. The car did feel better to drive, but that could be placebo effect.

However, if it improves my mpg, I'll use it.

Have you ever tried Diesel Purge? 20 minutes and you have a "new" car. I run Moly Diesel purge every 20 000 miles and it cleans the car just perfect.

i have used powertek booster with an old hyundai coupe well 52 reg</p>

was like new after it does work and work well</p>

buying a skoda today but ive used xadio in an old r reg clio which ran better with this

Best way to clean out the crap in your engine....

Don't bother with any additives or anything.... Simply drive it like you stole it for an hour.

Actually being run properly does wonders for an engine.

After doing a track day, and constantly ragging it for about an hour, my car has not felt better to drive since. Much more responsive, and better MPG :)

I second this approach. Smash it down the roads for an hour and it'll feel a lot better.
