Strange Clutch Noise on vRS

Featured Replies

I have noticed recently that I get a kind of creaking sound when pressing and depressing the clutch pedal slowly on my mk1 vrs. Only had the car a couple of months so just geting used to its little quirks so may have been there since I got it. Now after reading various posts on here I put it down the the pedal itself and planned on lubricating it. I went to have a look today and this time without the engine running popped my head down there for a look/listen whilst pressing the pedal. I noticed it didnt seem to be coming from the pedal itself so popped the hood for a listen and got my missus to slowly press and depress the pedal.

I have found that the creak is coming from the gearbox area under the bonnet so assume its something to do with the clutch itself. Now it only does it if the clutch is pressed and released slowly and the general operation of the clutch seems fine with no slipping even in top gear on full boost.

Any ideas what this is and is it serious? or is it just something minor that wont cause any issues?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Dazz

that's the pressure plate who's creaking.

I had the same problem, creaking from the gearbox ,and then the clutch start to slip...I replaced the clutch kit and DMF(had a huge play) had no problem after that ,and 3 years ever since.

How long was it creaking for before the clutch started to slip? Ive got a weekend away planned this weekend and deffo cant afford to get clutch replaced before end if June.

you can go,but drive gently.I runned that creaky and slipy clutch allmost 4 months, but gentle. No forced overtakes.

The pressure plate starts to deform, and soon will slip.

Thanks for the advice. To be honest I dont really drive it hard anyway. Never ride the clutch or do racing starts or aggressive changes or drop downs.

I'll take it easy but keep an eye on it at the same time. At the moment its only does it if I operate the clutch slowly and the noise is only noticable if the engine isnt running. During normal operation it doesn't generally do it unless ive done alot of driving (IE: did it after a long drive last week, over 250 miles to be exact) then settled down again.
