Smokey vrs!

Featured Replies

Well today i noticed alot of smoke comming from the exhaust when i planted the foot down, in any gear! Black smoke to be precise so im a bit worried!

I think the car was decattes by a previous owner!

Last week i serviced the car, oil, oil filter, fuel filter, brake fluid and air filter, the cars on 56k with full service history!

Now ive read a few faults this could be,

Egr fault? Whats that exactly haha?

Turbo boost leak?

Any help appreciated

Listen to the engine when you shove your foot down?

If it is a boost leak then there will be an obvious whistle/whoosh sound.

That's the most likely cause. Ours half came off the other week and it billowed out thick black smoke.

There is a whine/woosh i just thought it was the turbo!

A fairly quiet whistle from the turbo is normal but you can only really hear that with the window down. If you can hear a whooshy noise with the windows closed quite clearly inside then it's definitely a leak. The main ones to go are those going to/from the intercooler due to the movement of the engine and these are the only ones that are attached to something that doen't move with the engine.

Mine has started throwing smoke out on start up, only since this weeks 25 degree temperature though. Pretty sure it will settle down when temps drop.
