Retrofit foglights

Featured Replies

Hi! :)

I'm planing to retrofit foglights to my Roomster that do not have this feature, and need a little help.

Parts I think I need:

Headlight switch with foglight support.

Left/right foglight lamps

Left/right frontbumper covers for foglight lamps.

Other parts?

Does the car need programing for actication?

Is the wiring present already?

I was planning to do the same on my previous Fabia MK I 1.2. Then I found out that beyond the parts you wrote above

1, No wiring was there

2. No fuse was there but there was position in fuse box

3. Reprogramming was needed or a resistor to act like a kind of short circuit for the Can Bus.

The cost is an issue if you buy all that stuff from dealers, but you can reduce it if you are gong to use parts from scrap yards. I never did it as I sold both Fabia and Octavia.

My Roomster also is not equipped with fog lights, so if you proceed your thoughts to acts, a full to do list or maybe a DIY guide, if you are good with wires and bolts, will be welcomed,

If you can forget full retrofit and just fit them as auxiliary fogs, then install is much simpler and cheaper. relay and fused wiring to battery (there are 2 spare fuse positions in battery fuse box), ground points on either side of engine bay.

Relay activated by single wire to cabin with an illuminated green switch connected to one of side lights (so fogs can only come on with side lights) and you're good to go.

Since you do not have fogs and therefore you do not have factory DRLs, the perfect space for your fog light switch will be below steering wheel, on a fuse box cover, next to fuse box, where the DRL switch is normally placed underneath. You can mount a rocker or push button locking illuminated green switch on the fuse box cover, just leave long enough cables. Even 2 or 3 switches are possible there (e.g. front and rear fogs, aux high beams).

Best part is if you get the switch mount wrong or change your mind, replacement fuse box cover costs under GBP5.

If you plan front+rear fogs, running the wiring to rear is going to be more pain, as I have found out recently when installing towbar.
