Octavia Vrs PD engine light.. Power unaffected

Featured Replies

Hi there

I have a 2008 Octavia Vrs PD, 32000 miles

Last week the engine light came on... The book says 'exhaust problem etc' & the car will go into limp mode.

I filled up & added some redex additive to give a clean, just in case it helped.

The performance is unaffected, as is Mpg (Got 55Mpg yesterday on a long motorway run)

A few months ago I had injectors & loom changed under recall, its been fine until the other day.

No problems at all with car in 4 years, 1 dealer visit for a new aerial, thats all thats gone wrong!!

Its a bit intermittant. Yesterday I did a 30 mile journey. Light was off. An hour or 2 later I went for a drive & it was on immediately. I cannot get to a dealers to check out codes & while the performance is Ok I'm not particularly bothered (How can I take the bulb out!)

Anyway, any ideas as to what could be the cause & is there anything I can do to clear, eg disconnect battery for a time?

Pressure sensor or exhaust temperature sensor (allthough with this sensor it will go in a sort of limp mode)

Had these sensors go broke after injector change.

Is it ur engine light or dpf light? U can't just take the bulb out lol u need to get it scanned to see what's wrong. Could be ur exhaust pressure sensor.

Hi, its definately the engine light. But performance is not affected at all!. I've been thinking about it, the other day the light was off but came on when I went over a speed hump (speed hump city my way). Maybe there is a loose connector or split hose or something physical?

If its the exhaust pressure sensor playing up then it will need to be sorted ASAP, failure to do so could lead to the DPF clogging up as no regenerations are occuring.

I've had the same problem, and mine was trying to Regen all the time.

Sensor fitted and a forced re-gen carried out for about £150 at dealers.

Get it scanned pronto is my advice.

Thanks for advice, will get it checked.. Daughter knows a VW mechanic as it turns out so he is going to check it out for me tonight.

Like the black bonnet in UglyVrs picture. Mines silver estate, may do that one day!

Black bonnet and roof in carbon fibre effect with the rest in brushed aluminium, all vinyl wrapped.

Helps with stone chips too!

Thw error code said something like 'egr communucation' so EGR is the problem.

Do I need to get to dealer Asap or ok to use until I get the time?, Will the Redex additive work its magic and clean it?, If it needs changing then whats likely cost?, Car is 3 years 10 months old, 32000 miles, full main dealer service history, should Skoda pay as its reasonable to expect it to last longer!. Sorry for so many questions!
