accelerator pedal mod..

Featured Replies

hey all, ive just completed a 7 hr journey from up north back to not so sunny wales.. something that was bugging me was the feel of the accelerator pedal- gotta give it plenty of pressure to go.. so i got to thinking- can you get weakened springs etc.. so i had a spare pedal knocking about.. so decided to have a strip down and look..

found that there are two springs under the pedal- one big chunky one and inside on thinner smaller one.. decided to remove big chunky one.. result= much lighter pedal- gonna give it a good roadtest and post back any results :)

please let us know if there is any adverse results, I would be concerned that the removing it might not bring the pedal back properly?

it seems to spring back fine- there is still a fair bit of resistance with just the one spring- i'll know for sure tomorrow after a roadtest.. ;)

I never head of that issue,my TB is drive by steel cable and acc pedal is very soft.

The throttle pedal on mine is very light. If anything the upper part of my ankle/shin hurts after long journeys because it's constantly under tension to prevent me pressing the pedal down too far.

If I did long journeys regularly I'd fit cruise control.

yeh, perhaps i should add this is on a tdi 110..

I would speculate that it's a fail-safe. If one spring snaps/slips, the other will literally pick up the slack.

hmmmm.. things are there for a reason imo.. im sure your insurance company will be happy to not pay out if something were to happen and they were to find such mods.

fair enough..

2 springs are fitted for a reason, I would refit it asap.

yeh- decided to take everyones advise and refit.. although gutted- my test run proved to be very nice, easy pedal and made the car feel more responsive.. but, everyone had fair points- insurance, fail safe etc.. ;)

what about fitting two of the weaker springs or stretching the stiffer spring so it has left effect?

Sorry but this is absolutely crazy!!!!

Leave the tensioner springs well alone! Get cruise if you have an issue with aching limbs!
