tmc tuning box fitted and whats going on?

Featured Replies

Hi guys i run a vrs anf have fitted a tuning box got a drag in a week and just trying a few teat runs on the road (quite place of couse)

At a quater mile of 15.28 which werent too bad but at 70ish it felt lyk it didnt want to keep on pulling as hard but when doin 60 and drop to 4th and boot it it seemed to pull harder then the standing still.

I run 95 ron because i cant get anyother and have on setting 7

Any ideas on what it could be guys, it pulls hard after 4k when driving aboutit just felt strange and happened twice(once in sport and again in manual) around the 70 mark and changing it up again didnt seem to change anything

someone been supping grandpa's old cough medicine?

can you explain what you mean? Are you saying it pulls a lot harder after 4000rpm? If so that normal, mine feels normal ish before 4000rpm but after is were the fun starts and the turbo is at full boost.

Probably setting 7 and 95 ron not helping - a car that needs 98 ron (not starting a debate!!) when it has 180bhp is being asked to give more - circa 200bhp on 95 ron and its probably throwing a wobbly.

Change it to setting 5 and give it a go.

Thanks yes i know i need 98 but live on an island and unless i start buying a tanker of it theres noway of it eva getting it on the isle of lewis

Are any Octane boosters worthwhile?

Well was thinking this been looking at lucus octane booster (3ron) and one called nf racing formula that can do upto 6 ron improvement and has testing to prove this

I run mine on super however in a few weeks I shall be holidaying in Ireland where it's 95ron or nothing. I will leave mine on 7 and see what happens and let you know. We could try emailing TMC and see what they say.

Just emailed them the question waiting for reply back. May take a while with the bank holiday.

I tried that yesterday and hoping to get e-mail from them on monday asking what the different settings actually do what what fuel they recommend for each setting etc because there is no information i can find online about what the settings actually do

Switch box from setting 7 to 5 and have noticed manifold pressure only reach's 1.9ish but it was reaching 2.2 bar when set at 7, im getting this read out from vi monitor connected to obd2 port

So boost etc is all lower with each setting?

  • Author

Well yea it would look that way switched it to 6 and initial boost of just over 2 bar then moved down a bit to say 1.8, it also seemed to move about alot like it couldnt hold the pressure between 1.8 and 2.0 bar.

Anyone done any comparsion between settings rather then just feel of the car and fuel consumption??

Setting 6 did the same but at 90ish mph now from standing start, will put to 5 and test again

Added half bottle of nf octane booster and turned to 7 works brill got 14.69 in drag but today thought feck it turn it to 8 on the way home from work and ow my word it pulls lyk a rocket ship, guys if ya feel the need add the booster turn to 8 and give the go pedal a shot i was highly surprised

there ya go, the right octane and it works fine

Fancy that eh?!

As said above the quoted 180bhp can only be achieved running it on 98ron fuel. Running it on 95ron will lower the power.

The TMC kit is probably set-up based on the car running on 98ron and achieving it's 180 (ish) bhp so running it on 95 and the ECU lowering the power is more than likely what was causing the issue.
