Management light

Featured Replies

I have a 57 plate Octavia and the engine management light has cone on. I had recently topped up the oil. When it came on I lost power but when the ignition was turned off and back on the power returned but the light stayed on. The power loss happened before around 3000 miles ago but not since (till now)

Wondering if I have overfilled the oil!!

Unless you have put way too much oil in there, I wouldn't have thought it would make the light come on. Have you had the car scanned to see what the fault is? It sounds like the car is going into limp mode because it is sensing something wrong. Could be a few things, but it's normally related to turbo overboost and fuelling problems.

Really Daft question have you checked the dip stick to see if its over filled?

Get it scanned and see what the fault code(s) is

Oil is fine (level). Management light on and off now. Only seems to happen going uphill when I'm putting my foot down.

Ah that solves it would of been loads easier if you put what engine it was!

My guess is its a diesel suffering from the sticky vanes problem, do a search on here for it m8

Sorry, it's a 1.9tdi engine.

Sticky veins? Any way of sorting this?

It means taking the turbo apart and cleaning the vanes.

The turbo vanes get clogged with soot and 5hite - quite common if the car is under-oiled or driven short distances all the time.

You can do a quick fix with various products designed for the purpose, or some people have used Mr Muscle oven cleaner. I think a decent specialist garage will charge about £250 for a proper dismantling and pipe cleaning job.

It could be a clogged fuel filter though, which is a bit cheaper to fix?

Found put it was a sticky flap on the turbo release.
