Interior light does not work on opening the drivers door

Featured Replies

Need learned help on this problem. I have an 2002 Octavia 1.9 TDI estate manual - Elegance. The interior light does not work when the drivers door is opened. The interior light works with the front passenger door and both rear passenger doors. Consequently when the side light/head lights are left on the buzzer does not sound. Have other members experienced a similar problem and the suggested solution?

Yes, its a very common problem and the usual cause is the failure of the microswitch on that door. On the MK1 I cannot remember if its inside the door or on the main car body.

It's inside of the door.

A common failure part - one of those 'parts made by the lowest bidder' failings again. You either buy a whole new mech and drop it in, or find a replacement microswitch to swap in, if you're handy with a soldering iron. There's a guide on here somewhere for it...
