Park Assist

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

All the `demos` I've seen for the `Park Assist` on the new Superb has the car parking itself on the RIGHT hand side of the road. Can anyone confirm that in this country the car will park itself on the LEFT hand side of the road?

Many thanks.

Yes it can park on either side of the road.

If you wish to park on the 'wrong' side of the road (on the right in the UK) then simply indicate right before ? you press the park assist button.

Those that have used it report its more likely to curb your wheels.

You certainly do have to keep an eye on them and not trust it 100%!!

TBH I only use it to get into really tight gaps - then take over the control again once I start getting close to the kerb.

Thanks all.

when I have used it it parked the car about 5" from the curb. Quite impressed I was.

Kerb or curb?

I don't think this is either an accurate or a fair statement, as it implies that it is a regular and inevitable consequence. As the name implies, "Park Assist" helps the driver to parallel park - mostly into a tight space which they might not try unaided. It works by aligning the car with those in front and behind it, so it pays to note the position of those vehicles relative to the kerb. I have yet to have my car contact the kerb when using it. This is due to monitoring throughout the process and over-riding it on the one occasion when it looked a bit too close. Once in >4 years is not "more likely to kerb your wheels" at all.

Ray, the 1st time I used the PA (fortunately I had my 205/55/16 winter wheels and tyres on, so had more tyre sidewall than the normal 225/40/18's) it did put the n/s/r tyre into the kerb.

I was a bit shocked to find out that both the vehicle in front and behind were a good 8" - 10" away from said kerb! since then I never trust it not to touch the kerbs.

Kerb or curb?
