remapped, too much boost

Featured Replies

just had my vrs remapped, was originally planning to get a proper custom map but in the end opted (stupidly) for a cheap mobile remap from a guy i know from hungary. he put a stage 1 map on first, and after a test drive the car felt no quicker and less smooth so told him i wasnt happy with it.

he put a 'stage 2' map on in the end and the car goes like ****, but really its got far too much boost as i dont have any supporting mods to cope with it. already blew the pipes off the intercooler and dump valve so replacing all stressed pipes with silicone next week.

question is, do i get the map taken off and go with my original plan or fork out for a fmic

anyone know a rough price for a fmic kit? and anything else i should be uprating?

i will be putting a cold air feed to smoothed airbox this week, dont really want to change exhaust if i can help it

thanks

Get it back to standard as you cant run a stage 2 map without the mods

Your egt's will be sky high! Which = bang

what boost r u running?bit of a cowboy putting a stage 2 map on a car without the supporting mods, has he damaged the car mats with his spurs?

dont know what boost its running, but enough to blow pipes.

what stage 2 mods would i need to sort this?

at the moment is completely standard, other than smoothed airbox.

just been advised that the standard intercooler should be ok unless uprating the turbo, so what am i looking at to get the egts down and car running safely?

cheers

You need a bigger down pipe!

Thats all thats really necessary! But tbh the map sounds proper bodge!

Erm cheap and Hungary ! Someone come and help me I'm lying on the living room floor while trying to type this on my iPhone with tears of laughter streaming from my peepers ! Get yourself off to shark and do things properly my man.

i have no doubt the map itelf is good, the software is from a guy in hungary with over 15 years experience, he did remaps for the police in hungary. the guy who flashed it on to the ecu was less of an 'expert' however. everyone harps on about shark, and i know they are good, but you notice golf/a3/skoda/leon crowd all rate different mappers as the 'gods' of mapping. once i have some supporting mods on the car i will run some logs for comparison. admittedly, it may turn out to be a maximum boost, no added fuel map but i will be interested to see.

if i end up getting a 'proper' map it will be at badger5 without doubt

well plan for now is turborevs uprated smic, forge silicone intercooler pipes, tip for a start - £350 fitted

looking at larger downpipes but all im seeing is either decats for about 90 quid or sports cats for stupid money. is there any benefit to using a larger downpipe with the standard cat as dont want to chuck silly money at it?

dont bother with that side mount its a waste of money and tip is not needed

buy yourself a downpipe cheap ebay decat will be fine

give you oem side mount a good clean and check its condition

then imo i would take it to someone like badger 5 or r-tech or shark to carry out some logging and make sure the afr is where it should be and that there is nothing going to cause an issue

if you dont want to throw money at it stick it back to standard !!! you need to spend money to make more power safely simple as that

due to it trying to run stage 2 power dont be suprise if things start to fail like TURBO and mannifold etc etc

modding cars can be very simple but yet very hard if you havent a clue !!

Sod that. Get a standard map put back on, or at least fit a boost gauge and see what psi readings you get before your engine eats itself.

Bigger downpipe, intercooler, d/v and other things are ideally needed as said above. I wouldn't risk a healthy engine over a map, Especially after you said his "stage 1 map" did nothing to your car. Alarm bells are ringing.

Yea good points being made, may as well get the map took off or have a decent stage 1 put on for now. It was only 150 quid so not the end of the world. I thought the smic kits were supposed to be a good halfway point between standard and fmic. I'm not using the car much at the minute as I have a van also. Am I right in thinking it shouldn't be doing any harm if driven grandad style?

R tech is £150 for a stage 1...

No brainer to me

as already said, dont bother with a SMIC they a good upgrade for a standard car thats it! .. Rtec are the gods with the golf boys, Badger 5 is the god with the audi and seat boys, Shark are the gods with the skoda boys.. there all good, they all have very good reps and they will all look after you. I use Rob @ W8 performance who is an authorised shark dealer.. hes my god! haha!

Mapping your car is alot like getting a sparky to wire your house.. go cheap and risk burning your house down, spend a bit more and get it done correctly. All depends on your location as to where you go. But for a mapper with 15 years experience, he should of known not to just bump your car up to a S2 without the supporting mods. He should of also stopped at S1 when nothing worked. a good mapper would of said no, put you back to standard until the problem was found.

hope you get it sorted mate, but ffs dont mess about, this could potentually fubar your car!
