Knocking when braking and setting off

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Noticed this today and bit worried

When I brake and just about to stop I hear a knocking sound coming from under the car at front the sound is also there on occasional setting off.

Now on Thursday I had new top mounts, weitec new , oem drop links, new front wishbone front bushes and new powerflex arb bushes fitted.

Console bushed were done last year and has cupra ones fitted.

What the hell can the knock be lol?

Upon searching on here it seems the arb bushes are the main reason for knocking

Anyway to check mine were fitted correctly? Is it a DIY job to take out and put back in? (just to ensure its in place ok)

Could it be anything else?

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks.

ahh

just been under the car and the ARB is rock solid, no play in drop links either

is the coils touching something i have to live with or is there a fix mate?

thanks

Is it coming from your drivers side?

It sounds like it yes.

I've just done some more Searching and others have mentioned driveshaft hitting the arb? I take it I can't see this if the car is jacked up ?

Same prob as me I have had my AP coilovers on for about a year and now all of a sudden my drive shaft is hitting my arb people are suggesting shorter droplinks m8

What coilovers you running and are you using standard droplinks

You'd notice scoring on the driveshaft dude

Thanks guys

Using weitec gt hicon and using standard size drop links as thats what I read I needed to use as the weitec/ap/kw don't need shorter ones.

Il check under the car tomorrow.

As I said its just when I brake and come up a stop all the engine weight going to front of car and putting pressure on the coilovers.

Kind of wished I bought adjustable drop links now lol.

Awesome gti do some shorter droplinks for £30 don't know if there any good tho

Just a quick question about them, how do I know what length to adjust them too?

I guess is just 2 bolts to take out the drop link, should be easy enough!

I've just ordered some m8 so I'm not to sure but I was told when getting my AP's I would be fine with my standard ones but not anymore so this will pull the arb away from the shaft well so it says on the sitr

They look OK, if I knew which ones I would of headed into TMS

It's not the drop links dude. Seriously don't go wasting your time when short links are fitted with weitec they knock like hell. The noise is the coils rubbin on each other. Weitec gave customers a free length of rubber tubing that was slid onto the top three ish coils to dampen the sound.

It's something mine don't suffer from but mine were second hand so I guess they were broke in as such. Others put up with it and others fit that tubing but I can only see that been a temp fix as the rubbery plastic tube would surely rub through. I've got some of the tubing if you want me post a pic etc?

Have asked dpm up get me some sleeving

I think your right noise sounds like coil clanging each other.

Mondeo droplinks getting fitted tomorrow morning, it doesn't sound like the springs and my mechanic told me my drive shaft has been hitting my arb.

What does this tubing look like?
