Yeah grease is a very short term fix as you've seen lol. Putting the sleeve on will cure it I'm sure.

Will the coils not eat through the plastic tubing eventually ?

yeah but by then hopefully the coils have bedded in so to speak. Mine havent got any tubing on and mine dont do it :) they are just well broke in
