Fuel consumption, 1.2 TSI DSG - how far can you go without refueling

Featured Replies

Hi!

Today I saw a new all time record (at least for me) on the onboard computer when it comes to range on one tank: 290 km driven since last fueling, and 890 to go! This equals 1180 km (730 miles).

Has anybody else seen similar figures?

the 290 km are short stretches of highway (100 kmh), but mainly country roads (50 kmh, 60 kmh and 80 kmh). And this pic is not taken after rolling down a 10 km hill while engine breaking, I just turned of the highway, ~5km at 100 kmh. The best average consumption I have seen was also today, 5,2 l/100 km according to the computer,

Well same engine but five gears manual gearbox.

I managed 500Km out of 30lt of 95 Ron petrol, driving at highway at 120Km/h for 400Km and in 60 to 100Km/h for the rest 100Km. Two adults and boot full of stuff due to summer holidays.

Photo below is 84Km after refueling and passing Brallos Mountain which means 40Km steep uphills and 40Km steep downhills, both with U turns.

When returning I refueled in Lamia and reached Kastanies (Greek - Turkish Borders) with a two day city cruising in Thessaloniki. At the end car showed ~300Km left in tank. Travelling speed was 120Km/h at highway, 80 to 100Km/h at country roads and strictly 50Km/h when passing through villages. Here is the route . All kilometres were driven with a/c working.

I have seen many times 1020 to 1080 after 50 Km since last refuelling. But I think the real autonomy is from 890 to 1020 Km (on highway) depending many parametres such as ambient temperature, wind, boot cargo, air conditioning etc. On the other hand if car is used only in the city, gives me 550 to 750 Km out of a full tank (that comes as a result of calculations my mind performs). Now car has 28.200Km on clock.

That's really impressive figures, especially considering the high speeds. I have found that the fuel consumption increases radically once you go faster than 100 kmh, I guess its the aerodynamical (not!) shape that is showing its downside.

I found out that the ideal sped - consumption combination is 5th gear, 117km/h where consumption is between 5.9 and 6.3

DO you remember how much revs/min do you have at that speed with the manual gearbox? I have a feeling that around 80 kmh is the ideal speed with the DSG, but I have no facts to back it up with. I think ~120 KMH is something like 2800 RPMs for me.

It is the same for me too. If you are looking for really low consumption then I must tell you that cruising at 70Km/h in 5th gear gives around 5 to 5.5 lt / 100 Km. Unfortunatelly that speed is too low to travel in Highway where speed limit is 130Km/h and of course makes long journeys last more.

Before the regulations changed mpg figure measurements to urban, extra urban and combined manufacturers used to quote the best mpg figure at 56mph (about 90kph) so if you check your revs in top gear at this speed this will probably give you the best mpg/lt 100km.
